Prom Queens of Poetry Night

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Oh wow, tonight was so cool! Deborah and I decided to do the open mic at the poetry thing at the Right Bank. I played guitar, and she played ukelele on the first song. We did "Lonesome Pine Special" by the Carter Family, then "Soldier & the Lady" and "Lula Lee" by Coon Creek Girls. We had the harmonies down pretty well, and we got thunderous applause for such a small space.  Everybody was coming up to say they liked it, and me and Deborah were holding court like a couple’a prom queens.  And not one, not two, but THREE people discussed our playing at THEIR poetry nights et al.

Doing Cindy Crawford

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

I’ve been on a shopping frenzy for the past couple of days, but I hardly bought anything. I went to Macy’s and A&S Plaza yesterday looking for a Christmas dress but didn’t find anything I liked.  I did come home with the new Cindy Crawford exercise video. D. and I watched it together just to watch Cindy do her thing.  Damn, that girl is fine.  So today I went to Modell’s and got a set of hand weights, an exercise mat that rolls up real neat-like, a unitard, and sneakers, some Reebok cross-trainers.  And I came home and did Cindy’s workout and it felt real good.

Thanksgiving ’93

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Last night I stayed late at work fixing up my resumé, and I’m gonna make some phone calls tomorrow to see about temping maybe.  I type 70 wpm on a slow day so I shouldn’t have any problem finding work. I could use some work in the wardrobe department though.

Later we met T. and her girlfriend G. and got takeout food from the Thai Cafe.  We had a munchout at T.’s place on Wythe & S. 4th and got some seedy pot. It’s better than the shakey weed we’ve been getting from that crazy young French fellow that hangs out at the Right Bank.

I’m in the band, I think?

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Well, Mark called today and they want me to come out for a rehearsal next Wednesday at the music building (?) on 8th Ave. by the Port Authority.  I’ve heard of the place, it’s where Terri Aleo of the Crawling Kingsnakes got hit by a city truck or something and fucked her leg up real bad.  Guess I’ll be extra careful crossing the street around there!

The rockabilly audition

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

There’s all this Kennedy stuff on TV because it’s the 30th anniversary of the assassination. That was right before I was born — matter of fact, I guess I must have been conceived in November of ’63 ’cause I was born on August 18th ’64, nine months later. Whoah.

Right after work D. gave me a ride to the L-train and I trucked on over to 251 W. 30th, a studio called Legal Tender on the 8th floor for the rockabilly audition.  I had to wait a few minutes, but I got a good 30 minutes with the band. It went just fine — we did "Bang Bang" right away and made our way through "Let’s Have a Party," "Long Black Train," "Mean Mean Man" and a kickin’ "Let’s Elope Baby."

Move away from the rebbe

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

We had a nice lazy day today. I had to go to the doctor to get a TB test, and that was an experience in itself.  Robert T. at work came down with TB, and the health department came down last week to test everybody that worked with him, but I was out sick with a cold that day (coughing!) so they made me go on my own. I’m pretty sure I’m OK because nobody else at work tested positive, and lots of people worked more closely with the guy than I ever did.

New Brooklyn notebook

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Oh boy! I love a new notebook.  This one I got at the Deli Mart on Bedford & N. 7th because it was such a Hello Kitty shade of pink.

It’s been probably six months since I’ve kept a journal — I think I was fixing to move in with D. when the last one trailed off.  Well now we’re living here quite comfortably and happily, atop the Road Tramps motorcycle club with the three cats living in peace — my Junebug and Boo Boo Kitty and D.’s Markie the Cat.  And Little Pal sleeps with us & the cats upstairs but is banished downstairs when we’re not around — he’s a cat chaser.
