Puerto Unreal

Hello!  Just got home (haha) to Sevilla, from the show in Puerto Real (Cadiz), a seaside town.  Or anyway, we saw a beach and some water, but I’m not sure if that was the actual ocean.  It’s only a little over an hour’s drive from Sevilla so we just drove back and forth.  We’re staying in the same hotel we we were at last night, called La Muralla.  We have these rooms tomorrow night too.  It’s real nice to be able to stay in the same place for a little stretch, you don’t have to spend so much time draggin’ yer suitcase around.  I think me and Ryan are starting to drive poor Andy a little bit batty, but that’s okay.  There are only a few days left for him to put up with our dumbass jokes, and I’m pretty sure he’ll forgive us our weirdnesses and not end up completely disgusted with us and never wanting to see us again.  (Believe me, it can happen!)

HEY!! from Sevilla

Sorry sorry sorry I haven’t been able to blog lately.  I can’t even do it right now, we’re about to go get some lunch.  All the shows have been going great.  I just had time enough to update the Italian and Scandinavian dates on my shows list, and to write to my two Johns (my boyfriend and my little brother).  I have to run now.  Been doing all these interviews, one or two every day.  In Vigo I did an interview live on Spanish national radio, IN SPANISH!!  Good times.  Tonight we’re playing in Cadiz, tomorrow there’s a show here in Seville, and then god knows what.  I have to look on my own website before I can remember where the hell I’m going.  LOL

Murderous hairdresser

I had the scariest dreams last night.  I think that bang on the door really fucking scared me!!  At one point in my dream I was hiding upstairs in an old woman’s house — like my grandparent’s house but a 2-story. There was a group of us there sitting in an upstairs living room, trying to talk quietly so the owner wouldn’t hear us.  I got scared that she had heard, and I crawled into the space behind the couch.  Later I’m outside and the house is on a craggy hill.  There’s a hairdresser doing someone’s hair maybe 1/3 of the way down the hill.  I try to speak to the hairdresser but her eyes start flashing green and red and she starts chasing after me with her arms outstretched.  She got her hands around my neck and was about to strangle me.  I remember thinking I HAD to scream to make her go away, but I couldn’t get the sound to come out of my mouth.  I got a couple of "uuuhh!!  Mmmpphh!!  AAAiiiii!!!" noises out but couldn’t really scream.  I actually woke up really scared at that point.

Day off in Sevilla

I’m in the hotel Muralla in Sevilla.  Me and Ryan stayed up for a few hours drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, talking and laughing the whole time but we didn’t realize the sound was carrying through the hotel.  Just got a huge bang on the door so I knew it was time to go to my room and shut the fuck up.  When we opened his door there was nobody there!!  I guess the night clerk banged on the door and bolted back downstairs so he wouldn’t have to actually yell at us.  I hope we don’t get in trouble for this, ‘cuz we’re supposed to spend another couple of nights here!!  Uhhhhh…. sorry?  Lo siento, no sabiamos que fuimos haciento tanto ruido!!

Driving day

We got wakeup calls at 9 this morning (=yesterday morning!) and had breakfast in the hotel.  I ate an orange, I think it was the first piece of fruit I’ve had since I left Chicago.  Both the promoters in Vigo (Julio) and in Porto (Augusto) had been sniffling and complaining of bad colds… I always end up getting sick on tour, at least when I do it in the States, so I’ve been eating my Flintstones every time I remember, and maybe the orange will also help to fend off any potential bugs.  I feel fine right now, just the same as I do when I’m at home… just a few sneezes every day caused by allergies to dust or whatever.  Last night during the show I had to cough at one point… it kind of messed with my train of thought because I spent one entire song trying to sing and NOT cough though I really wanted to.  But I don’t HAVE a cough or anything.  I’m not really monitoring my smoking right now, only because it’s not bothering me at the moment… I can’t smoke as much as I do at home, because I’m busy running around and doing stuff, and I can’t smoke in the van, etc. etc.  Whereas at home I can literally smoke all day and it won’t interfere with anything I’m doing, other than washing dishes maybe.

Porto postcard

Hey.  I’m in fuckin’ PORTUGAL, can you believe it?  I can’t.  We played in Porto tonight (=last night) at a place called Mercedes… actually the full name translates to "My Mercedes Is Bigger Than Yours".  Heheh.  This is probably… no, definitely… the most unspeakably beautiful city I’ve ever seen in my whole life.  I took about 65 pictures today so you can see for yourself once I put them online.  The town is just… I don’t know.  Medieval meets old-fashioned with a little modern thrown in, in all the right places.  It’s a river town and the club was practically on the waterfront, where all the action is.  This doesn’t seem to be quite as much of a party town as, for example, Caceres in Spain, which is also a really medieval-looking place.  There everyone was out drinking in the streets all night long, but here it’s really dead outside at 3 in the morning.  Of course it is Sunday so maybe everybody’s home tonight getting a good sleep for work tomorrow.  Which is what I should be doing!!

3am in Vigo

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Just got back from the club where we played in Vigo, called Vademecum.  Great club.  It’s like a groovy dance club with a chillout room on the side.  The owner Julio said it’s only open on weekends.  We played at 12:30 AM and by the time we left it was really hoppin’.  Tonight was daylight savings night, so we got an extra hour to hang out without worrying about losing sleep.  :-) Anyway our drive tomorrow is super short, only a few hours to Oporto, Portugal.  I had a pretty good time playing tonight!  The audience was very good so I rewarded them (haha) with that Lydia Mendoza tune for an encore.  :-D There were plenty of people for my tastes, maybe 60 that came to see us play.  A lot more people came in later though, for the dancing.
