Messing with the recorder

I made a quickie 4-track demo of a cover tune just now, "Dear Someone" by Gillian Welch.  it was fun to play around with the recorder again.  Of course I’m working on about five or ten other songs of my own at the moment but haven’t quite gotten to the demo-recording stage for any of ‘em yet.  Soon though!  The pot’s bubblin’ on the stove.

My Holler Sister calls

I talked Deborah this evening, one of my oldest dearest friends from when I lived in New York.  It was so good hearing from her.  She was bawlin’ her head off because she’d just found out about Elliott… :-( Poor Deb, she never knew, all this time.  I knew I should’ve called her when it happened, but oh well.  Not like we have any more answers now than we did then.  She got to go on a few months longer than the rest of us without knowing, maybe she’s lucky in a way.

If you read this later, LOVE YOU DEBORITO… you made my day, thanks for calling.  I am really blessed to have a sweet true friend like you.  Holler Sisters 4-ever!!

Cowgal valentines

Some antiques from the warehouse.  It is getting more or less close to February, so what the hell.  Aren’t they sweet?

Mmmm, pralines

<

p>praline.gifYou can buy real Mexican pralines online at Mi Tierra in San Antonio.  I’m a junkie for these things.

Oh great

Chicago is the murder capital of the nation for 2003, with 599 homicides.  And at least two or three of those happened less than a block from our apartment.  Life in the big city I guess…!!

Scintillating scotoma (Part 2)

Update: Comments are closed on this post; the discussion continues on this newer one.

Tonight (=last night) I had another ocular migraine, the first one I’ve had in three years. I was driving; we were on our way to the store, stopped off at the money machine and there it came. It was pretty mild in comparison to others I’ve had… only lasted about 15 minutes and was only in black and white zig-zags, no colors that I could detect. By the time I noticed it, the C-shape "porthole" was wide enough that I didn’t have to stop driving, and by the time we got to the store it had expanded all the way out to my eyelids so I couldn’t see it anymore. It was only in my left eye like always. (That’s my "good eye"… the other eye is totally wacked-out and lumpy with astigmatism.)
