Abrams Report, blah blah
Thursday August 8, 2002 – 2:45 pmI really like the Abrams Report. They just had a story about how they’re trying to decriminalize marijuana in Nevada. I think that’s great btw! It’s high time. (nyuk nyuk) I wish the Supreme Court would feel the same… didn’t they just strike down the medical marijuana initiative a few months ago? They really don’t get it.
I need to get Movable Type going, but I’m dawdling. It’s gonna be a big deal to get everything ported over if I plan to change systems like that. I know I’ll be a million times better off once I get there — the thing really is slick compared to Blogger — but I’m not looking forward to doing the dirty work.
I can’t remember why I couldn’t name the main blog page "index.html" so you could just access it from edithfrost.com/blog/. Just to let you know, I think that’s annoying and I’ll definitely change that if I can. Oh yeah, DUH… it was because they’re PHP pages and I think I tried making an "index.php" but it didn’t pull up with just the /blog/ URL. And I had to use the PHP pages because of the Blogkomm comments system. Well, when I get MT happenin’, I’ll have to port those comments over somehow because MT has its own comments system built right in. Lots of of other kewl features too, it’ll be sweet.
Speaking of SWEET SWEET LOVELINESS… they updated the iPod today!! Oh… I told you that already. :-| I’m just so excited, and I just can’t hide it!!
Do you think I should move the blog so it’s on the very front page of my site? I mean instead of home.html? Shit, I’m sick of that entry page too, now that I think about it. I was avoiding it because it would involve changing the links on over 400 pages, but with Dreamweaver it would truly be a cinch to do. To get rid of it and just have what’s on the home.html page be the first thing you see. And have the blog be right there, instead of the bullshit that’s there now. I never even go over there, ‘cuz I barely ever seem to have any news that I would consider to be newsy enough to put there. I think the blog would be a lot more compelling… but then again, I don’t know if I would feel so comfortable blabbing my head off right there on the front page!! I would feel so… naked. All the jerky-boys would laugh at me!! Well, pipe up if you have an opinion one way or the other.
It’s so cool to have this blog now, and the comments on my blog especially. I gotta say it’s improved my whole outlook on having a website. When my site was just a static thing, it was depressing. It felt like just a vanity thing to me, and I didn’t really give a shit about it most of the time. I sort of thought of it as my archive, which it really is. The place where I store all my press clippings and photos and shit. Anyway I was constantly fighting the urge to just delete it, to give up on having a website at all. But ever since I started blogging (again!) all that’s changed. I’m really into my site again and have been fiddling with it and making lots of improvements under the hood on a regular basis. Having the interactivity is totally key. I’ve had a guestbook in the past but that’s not the same thing at all!! A guestbook just gets filled with "Love your music!!" and "When are you playing in my town?" type messages. Whereas all of y’all are so over that, we’re getting way beyond that superficiality and getting into real conversations and shit. I just LOVE that, and now I wouldn’t dream of getting rid of my website.
Ew GROSS. I just saw a commercial for the new James Taylor album. He’s playing on a stool in a guitar store, with a couple of customers standing around giggling and feeling very special because they get to see THE James Taylor performing right in front of them in the guitar shop. It’s not James Taylor that bugs me, it’s the scenario. I would never ever do that in a million years… go into a guitar store and start performing for them whether they like it or not…!!! "Hello my name is Edith Frost… needley-needley-needley-wrraaa-wrraaaa!!!" Right. Isn’t it obnoxious when you go into a guitar store and some dude is doing that, thinking we’re all going to be so impressed with his performance? Guys like that, they’re not gonna buy a guitar so they oughta just get ‘em off the premises. Guitar stores usually bother me… I typically don’t get very good service or help in those places. It’s such a macho environment. I’m always very pleasantly surprised on the few occasions when I’m treated with respect, as an equal the minute I walk in the door. When they assume you’re a musician instead of assuming you’re just somebody’s girlfriend… that’s always nice, and those are the places I go back to. Zzounds was like that, but I don’t even know if they’re still around, it’s been a few years since I needed anything from there. I never change my strings. :-|

love your music! when are you playing in my town?
LOL just kidding, I couldn’t resist! ;)
I enjoy your blog. Maybe putting it on the front page is a good idea. It’s worth a try, anyway. It is kind of tucked away now so more people would see it if you moved it (assuming you want more people to see it).

Yeah, I shouldn’t have said that about the guestbook entries, ‘cuz it really is nice to get messages like that. I just meant this is EVEN better.

If I walked into a guitar store and saw you say ‘My name is Edith Frost…needley-needley-needley-wrraaa-wrraaa’, I’d think I’d of lost my mind!
I can’t go to guitar stores very much because as soon as someone calls me ‘dude’ or ‘bro’, or I hear someone wanking out rawk-style, my instincts tell me to turn and run. I do the same thing sometimes when asked to pick a salad dressing…
And I still love your music and want you to come to my town…

Not a musician, but it is nice when people throw out their preconceived notions… I reserve the right to be tall and not play basketball.
And, if the tour is coming to Jacksonville Beach, it’s only a short jump over here to Tallahassee… :)
We’d love to have you!
