Almost lost in the woods
Thursday December 23, 2004 – 7:48 amI dreamed I was in a dorm room with another girl as my roommate. It was in some other city and I was packing my suitcase to get ready to go home to Chicago. As I was discussing this with the roommate though, I realized I wasn’t completely finished with my schooling and would need to complete my studies at a school that wasn’t in Chicago. I asked the roommate where the school was, and she pointed it out on a map; it was in St. Louis. "Well that’s not *too* far from Chicago," I thought, but I was still really disappointed that I couldn’t go home right away.
In the next dream-segment I remember, I was walking along a snow-covered dirt road in the woods. My husband and I had bought a house out there in the middle of nowhere and I was really excited to go meet him; he’d gone ahead of me earlier in the day. (The husband seemed to be a version of the same guy I was married to ten years ago in NYC… a much nicer version!) The woods were beautiful and I was enjoying my walk, but evening was approaching and it was getting darker by the minute. I was seriously doubting my ability to find this house. My hubby didn’t have a cellphone and I didn’t know the land-line number for the new house, so I didn’t know what to do. Finally, just before it got too dark to see anything, I came upon a forest-ranger station. I went inside and there were two women there, one was a forest ranger and the other was the ranger’s mom or something. They were about to go home for the day so it was a good thing I caught them. I asked them if they knew where my house was. They did, but they didn’t think it would be a good idea for me to continue on foot in that snowy weather. I looked around the ranger station and saw a guest room off to the side, equipped with twin beds. I asked the women if it’d be okay if I spent the night there; they nodded and said it should be fine. The forest ranger proceeded to replenish the kindling in the fireplace and swept up a little, getting the place in order for an overnight visitor. I asked her if there was any way I could find out the phone number for my new house; she happened to know it by heart. The number had five digits instead of seven. I called it and spoke to my husband and told him I’d gotten lost and was spending the night at the ranger station. There was some talk of him driving over to pick me up but it seemed the weather was too bad and it would be a lot safer for him to come get me in the morning. I missed my husband and was so excited to get to our new house!!
