Back on wheels again
Thursday September 30, 2004 – 12:10 pmSo on Tuesday night Sarah calls me and says hey, do you want to go roller skating? I’m leaving now, I’ll pick you up in 5 minutes! And I’m all… uhhhh… FUCK YEAH!!! So we went. And then last night, we went again. And tonight, we are going a 3rd time. So now I know where the rink is and where I need to go, and I’m going to go even if Sarah gets tired of it, which I don’t think she will. I am sooo excited and happy to be skating again!! It used to be my Thing when I lived in Austin, I would go constantly, at least two or three times a week if not more. When I moved to New York there was really no easy way to do it, so with great sadness I just got out of the habit of skating all the time. But now I’m back and there ain’t no stoppin’ me. WHOO-HOO!!! Sarah’s cozying up with some roller-derby girls but I have no interest in that, I just want to skate for the fun of it. Every day if possible. YAYYYYYY!!!!!!!

I’ll tell you privately, and I’ll also tell you why I’m telling you privately, privately. :-)

Cool! It’s such good exercise. I went a couple years ago after not having been for ages and was worn out! My favorite thing about skating was Shoot the Duck. I could hold my own at that, even though I didn’t have skate leotards for my wheels or lessons. And I was super jealous of the girls that could do the spinning and jumps. I focused that energy into air hockey instead. So glad for my air hockey skillz now though, they’ve really helped me in my life ;)

I haven’t been able to shoot the duck since I was a little kid. My butt’s too big, the center of gravity is all wrong. I can jump and spin though, but not that well. I only know one jump — a toe loop which I do all sloppy ‘cuz I land on 2 feet instead of 1. And I can only spin on 2 feet, not one. I’m totally jealous of the girls who can do those amazing one-footed spins. And shoot the duck. :-)
I got a blister on my heel last night!! So I guess I overdid it and need to wait a few days for it to get over itself. I should’ve known it would all come down to my poor feet!!

Hi Ladys, when you say "shoot the duck" i remember as a kid we played a roller skating game at the rink called shoot the duck, sorta like sitting down with 1 foot underneath your tush and the other leg extended out, a friend would push me around the rink and either try to knock others down. do you remember that game ?

That’s the position but I’ve never seen it used as a weapon! heheh.
