Birth of the Marfa Lights
Wednesday April 14, 1993 – 10:21 pmNote: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.
And I have the IRS where I want them on the 15th of April 1993, as Arthur would say. From the 18th of August in 1964 to April 15th 1993, 28 years old so far so good (and so on).
Things are going so well I can’t believe it. I actually got a big refund on both my NY state and federal tax returns because of the loss we took when we sold the family-property moneypit. I’m so relieved about that — I had no idea — I thought I was going to owe a lot of money.
D. and I are doing great, couplewise. I can’t believe we’ve only been together 4-1/2 months. Like, we’ve been together for so short a time that I’m counting the half-months. Because it feels so solid with us, it just doesn’t seem like a new thing. He’s so good for me, my God! We’re goofy in love. Seriously, I’m so grateful for what I have with D. It’s AMAZING.
The other large development on the waterfront is that Edith possibly has a band for May 1st at the Mast. Jeff and I have been practicing with Andre a couple of times, and yesterday we played at Coyote with Charles the drummer, Charles of the comedy team Charles and Dave (the bass player). Andre had his own bass amp and I used a Fender amp and Jeff had a Marshall! It was kind of weird playing with Charles for the first time. He’s a ROCK drummer, and he was laying it on pretty hard for the country stuff we’re trying to do.
So here’s the deal: Tom Mattioli at Muze is a drummer and is very enthusiastic about wanting to play. So on Friday night we’re gonna jam for awhile at D.’s place. I left a message at Jeff’s so maybe he can come too. We’ll just see how they compare, Tom and Charles. Because if Tom charms my socks off and can swing with our groove, then I won’t hesitate to tell Charles to take a hike. Anyway, Charles is willing to play the gig if need be. Oh yeah, and we’re being billed as "Edith + the Mysterious Marfa Lights." Jeff’s idea.
I have written 3 new songs lately, "Lilly Genelle," "No Time" and "Walking Man", all taken from old words from the Folder ‘O’ Words. So now Jeff and I can play 12 original songs. Well, 10, really.
Muze is going well, it’s been right at a month now. I have been making myself indispensible however I can, so all the people overseeing my work, like Victoria and Chip and Andy, are all realizing MORE AND MORE EVERY DAY!!! how firmly I do indeed kick butt. There is this really annoying dweeby girl who bothers me but that’s the worst of it. I love walking to work especially now that the weather’s gorgeous.
My hair is getting longer.
