Saturday January 11, 2003 – 4:14 amAs you’ve probably heard, our soon-to-be-ex-Governor Ryan just granted clemency to all our Death Row inmates. I’m really glad. Does this mean we’re totally getting rid of the death penalty in Illinois? I’m not sure, but I hope so.

Though "arbitrary and capricious" the death penalty has not been repealed in Illinois, nor has it been revised. The most promising thing is that this will likely be a catalyst for other mass clemencys as the issue comes under closer scrutiny. However, don’t count on Texas being one to follow suit.
