Journal

I’ve made this category to denote entries which were posted at some point after they were written, as opposed to normal blog entries which were slapped up on the web immediately.

TGIF the 13th

AT WORK.  I got home so late last night that I didn’t have the strength to write.

D. and I traded work numbers.  He has a mere cube while I have an actual office even if it’s not private.

During lunch yesterday I got another sweater at the Limited Express, this one’s burgundy.  I’m wearing it today.  I hope these things don’t shrink in the wash.

Abundance

I had lunch at "Le Café" (ooh la la) with Sue today.  I’d never been there but it was right good.  Had me a chicken breast stuffed with cheese + broccoli with salad.

Sue used to be famous for her drapelike hair, but she’s blunt-cut it like a long Roseanne Rosannadanna ‘do.

Working hard, hardly working

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Daddy’s secretary called today to say that seven grand was getting wired into my account.  I owed Daddy $2500, and he’s going to give me the other $500 after Jan. 1st, it’s a tax thing.

First thing I did was call Jeff and ask him if he wanted to eat some steak at Peter Luger.  He was into it so I got silly and made Madeline call in my reservation.

Boy (space) friends

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

That property got sold so Daddy is sending me a check for ten grand, minus the $2500 I owe him — that’s $7500 — plus I owe IRS a couple of thou maybe, no, a thou.  Plus I would love to pay off my damn credit cards.  Discover is something like $800.  FCNB is, what, 500?  MasterCard is 400 or so, Sears is under 200.  If I paid them off life would be so much easier.  I don’t have to pay any taxes on this money — they’re doing it as a gift-from-Daddy type thing.

Let’s do it

I had another action-packed day yesterday.  In the early evening, D. called me up to see if I wanted to go eat Thai food at the new place on Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint.  It was a cool little place with slot-car tracks hanging on the walls as art.  D. had steamed mussels and soup and I had spring rolls and chicken with black mushrooms and bean sauce.

Food with Flex

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

I just got up and I have to go get coffee at Vittoria, if I can get my ass in gear.  But I wanted to remember to I forgot to write about something yesterday — Flex and I had a really fun lunch at a cheesy Mexican restaurant called Ah Chihuahua.  We both had enchiladas Suizas at my suggestion.  He is a great friend to have, especially at Lintas.  Actual friends are hard to find at that place.  Me and Flex go eat lunch maybe once or twice a month.  We go to a different place every time because he knows the neighborhood really well and knows all these cool places to go.  Once when his friend Kirk, the tall tall sculptor, came by, we got sandwiches and ate on some benches overlooking the East River.  Once when his friend Genghis Khan came, who is into PK Dick like me, we ate at a low-key Indian place.  We’ve eaten at a Polish place, and had sandwiches at a place Flex calls Pig Park — a park by the river in Sutton Place where there’s a sculpture of a big boar that little kids like to climb on.

Stalking the Jackaroos

Stu says: if it ain’t fun, it’s not worth it.  Don’t forget to have fun.  And truer words have never been spoken.

Just got back from the Jackaroos gig at the Mast.  The Southern Comfort has not quite worn off yet.  What a fun evening!  I went out and got high with (XXX) and (XXX).  Major fun.  I like both of them a great deal.

I thought I was gonna get to sing at tonight’s show, but it did not happen.  But I must stress how great it was anyway.

Open mic night

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

I’m listening to the tape of Arthur singing at open mic tonight, it’s funny as shit.  There were only 7 people in the audience including me + Jeff + Arthur!  I can hear myself cackling and coughing in the background.  Also you can hear Irena heckling Wild Bill, it’s pretty funny.

Rehearsing again

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

We had a good rehearsal, at his place this time.  I’d only been there two or three times before.  I did not say anything out of the ordinary to him.  I chickened out.  It was not the right time continuum.  I’m thinkin’, maybe at the show when I’m slightly tipsy.  I can say "WHY are you NOT my boyfriend?" like half-joking and half-serious.  "I am SO LOVIN’ you right now."

Loitering at record stores

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

I ran all my errands today — took my laundry, voted, got coffee, went to the East Village and: got money, went to Downtown Records on E. 5th St. and bought: Townes Van Zandt (pretty good), Stewart + Gaskin (a little drippy) and Yo La Tengo CD single of "Upside Down" which I had heard in the store last time and regretted not buying.

Music and food

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Jeff and I have been working real hard playing every week at the open mic, and rehearsing two and three times a week learning new songs.  I just decided about a week ago that I have a crush on him sort of.  Well, not just sort of — I think I have a full-blown infatuation thing happening here.

Cool music

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

The Jackaroos are playing at the Ships Mast in an hour, so I have to write quick.

Tom Schmitz at Ear Wax turned me on to some really cool music — I got 2 Nick Drake CDs, one called Opal, and one by Kendra Smith.  I’m giving Nick Drake a listen right now.  I think this all started when I got that Chris Bell CD, or maybe the Bongwater, or Mark Eitzel or whatever.  I always go in there.

It looks like some family property’s about to be sold and I’m going to get a bunch of money soon, maybe ten grand.  Although I don’t know what that means taxwise.  Here’s what I want to do: GET RID OF BILL’S STUFF.  Pay off all my credit cards, pay my dad back, pay taxes and buy some pot and CDs.  That’s it!

Nice birdhouse

I had a nice day.  Natalie wasn’t working today so I never went to the Mast.  I bought an Opal CD at Ear Wax which is real good.  Then Jeff came over at 4:00 and we rehearsed some songs + put them on cassette — "Needle in a Haystack", "Hard Times Ahead", "Evangeline", "My God Insane", I guess that’s it.  We’re going to rehearse again Tuesday.  I’ve decided to start playing guitar with Jeff — he can play the blue Strat.  I NEED TO WRITE MORE COOL SONGS IMMEDIATELY!

Up all nite

PARTY PARTY PARTY ! ! ! !  I told you about Craig + Don coming over, right?  Well, after they left, Craig had forgotten his pint of Bass so I was drinking it and making a Wire tape and writing in this thing.  I laid down at 7:30 or so intending to sleep til 9 or so but I woke up at 1:00! And I had no cigarettes, and all the stores close at midnight.  So I had to go you know where. Also I hadn’t eaten so I had to go for the free buffet. I got cigarettes and drank a beer and talked to Jaxon and had some food.  Then D. came in — Jessica’s friend.  We decided to get high so as soon as he found out I had skunky pot, he had to come over + smoke it.

The tarot reading

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Wow, it’s only 5:43 p.m. and I’ve already had an action-packed day. I walked down to Vittoria, the bakery I hang out in on weekend mornings.  I always see somebody I know, and today I sat and shot the shit with Mark, I don’t know his last name, who plays sometimes at open mic.  Then I went over to the Ships Mast to hang out with Natalie and bring her cookies.
