Journal

I’ve made this category to denote entries which were posted at some point after they were written, as opposed to normal blog entries which were slapped up on the web immediately.

My big research project of the day is how to combat SPAM.  I’m trying to learn about it and what I can do to fight it, if anything.  Started using SpamCop the other day but haven’t noticed any letdown in the amount of bs I’m getting in my inbox.

Bad day all around

I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard today.  That was good times.

Bought Windows ME, to make myself feel better.

Had another ocular migraine today. No pain, but a far-out light show!

Ugh — they had the final episode of Survivor last night, and the winner was Richard Hatch, the guy I disliked the most.  He did win fair and square I suppose, but he’s so annoying.  I had to work my delivery job last night but John taped the show for me.  It was quite a chore to avoid finding out who had won before I watched the tape… John accidentally saw the winner as he was fiddling with the VCR.  Shit!!  He was doubly pissed, both at spoiling the secret and who actually won.

Scheduling done, fun fun fun

Six Flags was AWESOME!!  The weather was perfect (partly cloudy and cool with spots of sunshine) and it wasn’t too crowded either.  I did end up bringing my PalmPilot, for no good reason at all.  I’d rigged it up with a shoulder strap, plus a little thing to hook it to my belt loop as well, so it was totally anchored.  I actually used it a couple of times too!  :-) It went with me on most of the coaster rides, but I chickened out on the flume ride. Luckily there were bins at every ride for people to stash their bags, sandals etc.

Birthday pre-fun

Got e-greetings from Davina and e-cards from Mama & Lilly.  And my Otter Box arrived just in time to put it to the test at SIX FLAGS!!!  John thinks I’m totally wack to want to bring it, so I’ll probably have to leave poor Palmie-pie in the glove compartment, oh well!!  I can handle that!  ;-)

SUCH a geek

I ordered more stuff to go with my PalmPilot — a replacement stylus by Panache (in black chrome), and a standalone pen/stylus combo (in blue) by Platinum.  I don’t know why I’m so PDA-happy lately, but oh well, sure is fun to play with.

I’ve been looking for a better database app, and settled on HanDBase after playing with it for a few days.  This way I can delete a few apps and improve my record-keeping, which needs all the help it can get.

Shopping with Amy cures frustration

Rian really fucked up.  He failed to book Steve for recording in September, so now if we want to work with him we have to wait until November or December.  Bummer!!  But I’m still excited to record with Steve.  Wait’ll I tell Jodi Shapiro, she’s gonna flip.

Saw more old friends this weekend… Daniel Smith was at Electrical mixing the new Danielson Family record with Albini.  I went over there with John on Saturday to hang out and hear a few of the tunes, it sounded really great.  That’s when I bumped into Rian and we all had the discussion on when/if we should schedule recording at Electrical.  I was so pissed at Rian; I spent the better part of the weekend just seething about it.  Hopefully we’ll get it scheduled ASAP and I’ll be able to rest a little easier.  Rian feels pretty bad about it too, he even apologized to John for pissing me off!!

Health of my loved ones

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

Junebug’s not eating very much but she will if I coax her.

Talked to Lucie on the phone… Daddy’s planning to have surgery soon, to bypass his stomach.  Ewww!!  But apparently he needs it done for his health.  He never told me about it, but I hear everything from Lucie.

Getting back to normal catwise

Well, it’s about $800 bucks later but June, thank God, is almost totally better!  She was in a bad way but they were able to pull her out of it.  It was Dr. Glater who saved her.  She got a cathater, an IV and a drainpipe in her face.  Came home on Tuesday looking MUCH much better.  I’m so relieved she’s okay that the money seems pretty insignificant right now.  She’s on antibiotics now & I’ll need to give her potassium supplements for the rest of her (hopefully long) life, but she’s fine otherwise.  I sure am relieved!!!

Amy Domingues is coming into town on Sunday.  It’ll be so nice to see her.

I’m still in total PalmPilot mania, playing with my new IIIc constantly.  I’ll get over the novelty eventually I guess.  When hell freezes over!  Heheh.

June’s better

Found out Juney is doing much better!! Yay!!  Her fever has broken and they tell me she’s alert and moving around more.  They’re keeping her overnight again, she can come home tomorrow after they take the drain out of her face.  :-| Thank God she made it through that awful fever!!  I *so* thought she was a goner.

Jordan from the Big Brother show went on Letterman tonight.  She looked great.  I’m kinda rooting for her.

Waiting for news

We had a pretty blah Sunday.  Breakfast at the Ravenswood with WGC was nice, but the rest of the day was grey and full of worry about Junebug.  Haven’t heard anything from the vet about her condition — they’re there on Sundays but not taking phone calls.  I hope no news is good news in this case.  I’ll find out tomorrow when they open.  :-|

John and I watched "Life is Beautiful" on video tonight.  Our cable had gone out due to a huge windy rainstorm we’d had earlier.  Great movie, I cried at the end.  John wanted to know if I think Kevin Spacey is cute… how cute!

June gets sick, then a WGC show

Junebug’s really sick.  Me and John got home from the Chestnut show last night (it went well by the way) and found June sprawled on the couch, sick as a dog.  All glassy-eyed and floppy as if she’d been drugged.  This was around three in the morning — we took her to the emergency vet and he said she had an abcessed tooth.  Freaky because Elsa (John’s kitty) just had two teeth pulled, about two weeks ago.  Of course June is at least ten years older than Elsa and I guess it hit her harder.  Sure came on suddenly — one day she’s her normal lazy self and the next she’s a zombie.
