Rants and Raves

Switched to Linux

Had to take down yet another MP3 (the "Follow" demo) as it’s going to be released on a POPnews compilation, and I want it to be exlusive to that for awhile.  On a side note, I should tell you that a few weeks ago I had a freakout over all things Micro$oft, and decided to dump Win98 in favor of another operating system, Linux.  I’ve installed it on both my computers, so from now on, all work on this website will be done via that platform, and geared towards viewability with same.  (This is a *huge* change for me, as I’ve been using Windows and DOS my whole life!) Reason I’m telling you this is, although it’s just as easy to make MP3s on Linux as it is under Windows, I’m still learning how to use the OS and haven’t set up the software to record audio as of yet.  It’s high on my list though, and as soon as I get that happenin’ I’ll record some more MP3s and post them here to replace the ones that have been farmed out to benefit compilations etc.

Got the new Aluminum Group

Finally heard the new Aluminum Group album and figured out which songs I sang on… I’ve added that info to the discography.

Got the new Archer Prewitt

Added a guest appearance on Archer Prewitt’s "White Sky" to the discography.

My favorite books

Here are some of the books in my collection, in case you want to check ‘em out (so to speak).

Down with MP3s

Took down the MP3 files for the songs "Ancestors" and "Cold And On My Mind" because they’re going to be released on a benefit compilation (more news about that as it develops!).

New gizmos

Added a cool background to all the pages — I found it at Splendid E-Zine and brazenly stole it for myself.  Also put a Javascript applet on the index page that asks new users if they want to bookmark my site — but it only works with IE, oh well.

Site tweak

Added a legend-box for easier navigation on the discography.

Fooling with photos

There are so many photo gallery pages now that I stuck them into their own directory so as not to clutter the main folder.  Of course y’all can’t see that, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning it… it’s just something I did so my FTP folders will be a little easier to wade through.  Added a really nice photo by Brandy Leigh to the old live shots page in the photo gallery.

New search box

Made a new search box powered by whatUseek, because the other one at BeSeen.com was screwy.  I’m still fiddling with the nav-bar and the site map, trying to make sense of all this crap I’m posting.

Pictures and links

Added a couple of newly-scanned B&W photos from the Spaceland show to the photo gallery’s live shots page.  Consolidated the rest of the links onto a non-music links page.

Flower’s on the web

Consolidated music links onto a single page.  By the way, my booking agency has a new webpage, and there are currently 140 unanswered e-mails in my inbox.

Site tweaks

Redid the navigation bar so it’s not so cluttered.  Added a new site search thingy, and put it on a new site map (a more thorough version of the chart used to be on the front page).  Added a couple of quotes to the front page as well.

Let’s chat

Started up a new discussion board on BeSeen.com.

Song for today

Wrote "Merry Go Round"

Bit better in Brussels

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

I’m in Brussels now, I got my own hotel room at the Grand Hotel Mercure right by the venue we played at tonight, the Botanique, a sort of botanical garden-slash-events hall.  The show was pretty good — not that many people but they were very attentive & quiet.
