Site Updates

Discography’s done

Finally finished moving all the discography pages into Movable Type.  I had to fudge on some of the release dates, having only the year to go by.  And I’m sure there’s lots of info missing, so if anybody notices anything, just post a comment.

I can’t do anymore major updates for the next few days, because I’m moving my stuff back and forth in preparation to take my laptop in for service.  Next week maybe.  I will be blogging though!

Moving discog to MT

I’m starting to move my discography into Movable Type, so every release will be sortable either amongst the blog entries or not.  That’s why the archives have suddenly jumped back to July 2001!  This is going to take awhile but it’s going to be an improvement because everything will be organized in multiple categories… you’ll be able to see the full discography, or just my own albums, or just the guestings, etc.  I think ultimately everything on this site that can be expressed in terms of dates, should be put into Movable Type!  Definitely the past shows list, probably the press stuff too.  It’ll just be a lot of cutting and pasting but it’ll make things easier for me to control in the end.  There are some sections that I’m not sure what to do with (like lyrics) but I’ll cross that bridge later.

New Mekons

The new Mekons album got released yesterday… it’s called "OOOH! (Out Of Our Heads)". Me and Kelly Hogan sang backups on it, so I’ve added it to my discography.  YONK!!  It’s a wonderful record, best album they’ve ever done.

Comments are imported

Finally finished ramming the old comments into the new system.  Thank GOD.  I never ever want to do that again, not ever again in my whole entire life. That shit’s for the birds.

If y’all notice any double postings left, or anything else that’s weird, please do let me know. I also might have lost a thread or two in the process, but oh well.  There were a few messages I noticed that I could have sworn people had commented on, but maybe I’m just trippin’.

Isn’t it hilarious how I’m constantly updating y’all on backend issues you shouldn’t give a shit about?  I could indeed have a whole website that goes into great detail about how I have a website.

Spam rant showcase

I made a new subcategory last night just for my spam tirades.  I haven’t marked all the spam-related posts for this page yet, but a lot of the good ones are there now.  When you see it all in one place, it’s pretty hilarious.  Watch me go completely ballistic, over and over and over again.  No one is spared from my fury.  Do NOT get me started, ‘cuz dude!  This is what happens when you get me started.

Timezone testing

My posts are showing up as being posted an hour before they really were.  I just changed the setting in MT, hope it works now.

Site validation

I’m trying everything I can do to get my blog pages to validate to current web standards.  They’re riddled with errors, and it’s causing problems for people with older browsers.  The main problem is that I’m using a combination of old HTML tags and new XHTML and CSS-specific tags.  The new language (or whatever you call it) is much stricter than the old one.  Old tags break pages.  It sucks, because the whole point of moving to this more advanced format is that it SHOULD work a whole lot better with older browsers (and text-readers etc.) than the old pages did.  I just need to clean up lots of stuff now, things that I used to depend on for layout and prettification.

Future is now!

Movable Type is the best thing that ever happened to me as a webmistress.  The new pages are just lovely, don’t you agree?  And have you seen all the cool new features this thing lets me use?  I’m tweaking it every day.  My blog posts now have multiple categories, so you can see a list of all my bad dreams in one place, or all the site updates, or all the cool links I’ve posted.  You can view a simple list of all archived posts. You can now syndicate my site, or any of my sub-categories via XML… but I really don’t know what this is all about.  Somebody please let me know if I’m missing some code that would let you do this.  I’m pinging Weblogs.com with every new post, and I don’t know why!

Hello again, world

Welcome to my new Movable Type site design!  I have a LOT of work to do, so bear with me.  Have to import the old comments.  Lots of things are going to look funny, and some links may be broken, or take you to unexpected places… sorry sorry…

Blogger template

Still trying different things trying to get the template to read correctly in Blogger.  I know full well it’s just a bug on Blogger’s end, but this is my excuse to keep fiddling with the layout and colors.

Maxine interview posted

I’m testing a little doohickey called BlogApp.

In the new-content department, I slapped up an old 1999 interview from a zine called Maxine which I think is now defunct.  I have tons of press stuff that I never got around to archiving on my site.

Live from ICDSoft

Kick ass, the site is now live on the new server!  Or at least it’s showing up over here; some other machines might still be caching the old site, but that won’t last more than a day or so.  Blogger works.  Are the comments working?  I had to reset permissions after I uploaded those scripts, so I’m not sure.

Moving to new webhost

I finished FTPing everything to the new webspace.  Had to make quite a few tweaks in the code, and will probably need to massage it even more when the new site goes live.  Mainly because the new webhost won’t allow me to parse all my html files for xSSI, the way I’ve been doing since the mid-Fifties.  I had a choice; either change all files to an .shtml extension (and fix all references to those files) or stop using xSSI on every goddamn page.  I chose the latter.  I was using SSI for the headers and footers, and some nav-buttons like "back to lyrics" and crap.  So I just got in there with Dreamweaver and turned all the SSI into DW library elements.  It doesn’t please me aesthetically but oh well.  You’re accomplishing the same thing visually, but codewise it’s not very pretty.  And it sure doesn’t save on bandwidth, because you’re putting the code for all your elements on each page instead of calling them from one central location.  Still, it’s easily controllable in Dreamweaver; I can change any element sitewide in just one or two swoops.

My site’s been down

My site’s been down 9-1/2 hours, and the Binary Blockheads are still MIA.  I don’t expect anything to be fixed until tomorrow morning; that’s the way it went the last two times this happened.  Three strikes, yer out!!  Even though the wheels are already in motion for my site to fire up on another webhost, I still feel frustrated as hell over the fact that I can’t access my site right NOW.  Those jag-offs.

Kiss my ass

Still can’t reach my site, and still haven’t heard from Binary Blocks, other than the automatic e-mail reply I got earlier.  I’m so pissed… they can kiss my ass goodbye.  I just signed up for another webhosting account, this time at ICDSoft.  Saw a lot of good reviews about it; hopefully it’ll work out for me.  I’m uploading my site as we speak, and will soon be going over to Network Solutions to change the DNS info.
