Insound chat posted

Added a transcript for an online chat I did at Insound.com on January 25th.  It’s really long and silly.

New guestbook

Tripod’s been really kicking ass lately.  They’re allowing CGIs now, for one thing.  Well baby, I’ve been doing my homework and I finally have my very own guestbook script running in my very own cgi-bin!!  I’m so proud of myself I could puke.  It took a lot of fiddling — I started with a free script from Matt’s, but did a lot of tweaks with the look and feel.  Also had to rearrange a few things internally since Tripod has a bit of a unique way of dealing with CGI that tends to break a lot of prefab Perl scripts.  Oh yeah… Tripod also just started letting webmasters embed the ad-banners in our pages rather than having the popup window.  I thought it might be less annoying to get rid of the popups, but what do you think?  It does spoil the aesthetic of the pages a little but oh well, it is free!

Knowledge base

I have a lot of techie notes I’ve written laying around.  Stuff I’ve written for Mike Andrew’s Linux StepByStep site over on Norfolk Island, plus a few other tricks of the trade I’ve put down on paper (so to speak).  So I finally said "what the hell" and assembled them links all on a page I’ve loftily titled Knowledge Base.  There are only four items to choose from at the moment but I’ll get more junk up there ASAP.

UPDATE: I’ve posted this stuff back online under the category Techie Tips.

No more remote loading

I devamped the site a bit over the weekend, trying to consolidate info and make things speedier to download.  I eliminated the framed layout, and got rid of the background image.  I also turned all the .GIF images throughout my site into .JPGs, for the sake of bandwith and also for political reasons.  Took down the favorite-books page, just because I wasn’t crazy about it being basically an advertisement for Amazon!  Maybe I’ll bring back the concept some other way in the future.

No more Nedstat

Tripod has discontinued the site-stats program they were running with Nedstat.  So I had to take that link down… but hey, it never worked very well anyway.

New links page

Due to an alarming increase in the cost of living and concern about the ever-expanding hole in the ozone layer, I’ve decided to get rid of the enormous library of links I had here, and start over again building a new list of links that I actually visit on a semi-regular basis.  Actually, I just had so many links before that it was almost impossible to maintain them!  This new list will be a little more reasonable, though I’m sure it’ll get huge again over time.

Got the new Aluminum Group

Finally heard the new Aluminum Group album and figured out which songs I sang on… I’ve added that info to the discography.

Got the new Archer Prewitt

Added a guest appearance on Archer Prewitt’s "White Sky" to the discography.

Down with MP3s

Took down the MP3 files for the songs "Ancestors" and "Cold And On My Mind" because they’re going to be released on a benefit compilation (more news about that as it develops!).

New gizmos

Added a cool background to all the pages — I found it at Splendid E-Zine and brazenly stole it for myself.  Also put a Javascript applet on the index page that asks new users if they want to bookmark my site — but it only works with IE, oh well.

Site tweak

Added a legend-box for easier navigation on the discography.

Fooling with photos

There are so many photo gallery pages now that I stuck them into their own directory so as not to clutter the main folder.  Of course y’all can’t see that, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning it… it’s just something I did so my FTP folders will be a little easier to wade through.  Added a really nice photo by Brandy Leigh to the old live shots page in the photo gallery.

New search box

Made a new search box powered by whatUseek, because the other one at BeSeen.com was screwy.  I’m still fiddling with the nav-bar and the site map, trying to make sense of all this crap I’m posting.

Pictures and links

Added a couple of newly-scanned B&W photos from the Spaceland show to the photo gallery’s live shots page.  Consolidated the rest of the links onto a non-music links page.

Flower’s on the web

Consolidated music links onto a single page.  By the way, my booking agency has a new webpage, and there are currently 140 unanswered e-mails in my inbox.
