Wow.  What a weird Saturday I had.  Weird week, matter ‘o’ fact.

Thursday night was Christmas Eve and there was open mic at the Ships Mast with Wild Bill.  I had picked some songs to do, none of which I’d ever done live before, don’t ask me what made me think I could pull that off.  Like, I picked "The Things I Might Have Been" by Kitty Wells, which has a lot of fuckin’ lyrics to it!

Anyway, I played, and Wild Bill followed along on guitar.  We tried to do "Rockin’ Around the Xmas Tree" but we were having a real hard time with the chords in the bridge part, try it sometime!  It’s hard!

So anyway I stumbled through four songs I think, "Always Late With Your Kisses," "Things I Might Have Been," "Rockin’ Around…", "Blues Keep Calling" and "Blues Stay Away From Me," that’s 5 songs!  Everybody said I sounded great <– (emphasis theirs not mine) even if I fucked up every song one way or another.

OK, so Christmas was Friday.  I called the whole family and Lucie called me from Florida — she’s visiting Mark’s family and they picked FLA as the meeting spot.  I even talked to both John and Lilly.  They’re such cool kids.  Then D. and I drove into the city to cop some joe at the "Wreck-a-Stow," which was open, HO HO HO!!!  And we went to Canal St. and all the Chinese shops were open and busy as hell.  We ate and I got some videotapes and a Jesus watch.

Today, and by today I really mean Saturday, I finally met D.’s folks.  We drove out to his neighborhood because R. asked D. to water his plants and check his kitties while he’s away in Connecticut.  R. lives just a few blocks away from D.’s parents’ house.  So anyway, they were very nice.  I like his dad a lot, he seemed to have a good dry sense of humor.  His mom’s obviously a freak, real New Yawk, kind of reminds me of Sue’s mom.  Nice, though!  But all fussing around and talking up a blue streak.  She laid out all these dishes of munchies and we sat around and had coffee, it didn’t last too long.  The highlight was getting to see a lot of really old photographs of D.  His 1975-era "Spinal Tap" look was particularly memorable.

We went to the Mast tonight with Diane and Jessica.  Diane is hot for Mike Chapman, and they were sitting together all night.  Jessica is feeling so left out what with everybody coupling off — she said she felt like she was in Noah’s Ark at the Ships Mast.  John Gallagher was extraordinarily drunk this evening.  Nora is extremely pregnant right now, you see, and I guess John is feeling wild and wooly and being a general pain in the ass to her.  He wants to give me lessons in stage presence.

Everybody knows about me + D. now.  It’s fun to kiss him in the Ships Mast.
