Cold Busters do the trick
Sunday February 20, 2005 – 9:48 pmI had a good weekend, I’m feeling quite a bit better than I was last time I blogged. That ear infection sucked but it finally dried out and stopped making zipper-noises every time I opened my mouth. Now the only way you’d know I was sick is that I’m still somewhat congested and my throat is pretty raggedy. I’m trying to take care of it, by staying quiet and keeping it moist drinking liquids all the time. It’s scary, I need to get my singing voice back into shape as soon as possible ‘cuz I have rehearsals coming up for SXSW. That suddenly seems just around the corner. I’m supposed to maybe record with Kelly and Nora too, but I don’t even know if that’s happening.
I actually bowed out of a singing thing I was supposed to do next Sunday, with Elia’s Choirboy Jug Stompers. I’m just not sounding good, my voice isn’t back yet, or not enough to trust that I could do it well. I was supposed to learn 10 songs for this, and there was only one rehearsal, and me with a voice that I couldn’t count on, I just didn’t feel right doing it. And since it was supposed to be just for fun, I figured it’d be better to be safe than sorry; better to take care of that shit and do whatever I can to make sure the voice is in tip-top shape for the important stuff that I can’t get out of. Don’t wanna pull an Ashlee when I go down to Austin, that’s for sure.
But anyway, I had a good relaxing weekend, that went a long way towards making me feel like a human being again. Eric and I spent Friday apart, doing our own things; I can’t remember what I did but I’m sure I did something, heheh. Saturday was the fun one though. This isn’t going to sound very exciting but he took me out to dinner. Whoo-hoo!! Well I thought it was neat-o, I don’t care what you think, heheh. It was a place up around Broadway and Addison called Genesee Depot. Just a real nice unassuming mom ‘n’ pop dinner place. Eric brought wine, mmmm. After that we just walked around, went into a few shops here and there and didn’t buy anything. I got to pet lots of animals: two kitties in a bookstore and one really nice doggie in a wine store. What a nice lazy evening, what could be better?
Today (=yesterday Sunday) we had breakfast at my corner diner and parted ways so Eric could go get a haircut. I took a long long nap (still needing lots of extra sleep, it seems) and then got up craving a Chipotle burrito full of hot-hot-hot sauce, and a Cold Buster from Jamba Juice. I keep forgetting to mention this but I had 3 of those in the past week and a half, and I really think they helped kick that flu’s ass!! It’s frozen juice with a bunch of vitamin C, echinacea and all kinds of antioxidant crap, what do I know. It’s pretty potent shit though, I can tell ya that. Anyway I got in the van and drove over to the Jamba Juice on Clybourn, got my Cold Buster and drove the other block to Chipotle and picked up a burrito to go. On the way out of the parking lot I saw somebody walking towards Chipotle, it looked a lot like Eric. What the…??? I wasn’t sure because I didn’t get a very clear view, so I rang him on the cellphone and sure enough it was Eric!! Totally random to run into him like that… he was done with his haircut and craving Chipotle too, I guess. So I turned around and went in with him and ate my burrito there. He was thinking about seeing a movie next, did I want to go too? Of course I did! So we saw Million Dollar Baby at the Webster theater up the street. It wasn’t nearly as good as I expected based on the rave reviews I’ve seen, but oh well, I had fun being in the theater, holding hands with Eric and just enjoying the unexpected off-the-cuff date we were having. How fun. After that I was all dry-throated again so we went over to Barnes and Noble and sat down with some tea and talked about the movie. I think he pretty much felt the same way I did… wasn’t the best movie he’d ever seen but by no means the worst either. It was good enough that neither of us felt gypped; we just wanted to see something halfway decent, and it definitely worked in that regard. Good to have somewhat low expectations when you go see a movie, or any kind of show I guess, that way you’ll never be too disappointed.

I am so lucky to have discovered Edith’s music 2 years ago while living in LA. She is so talented and her voice and music is amazing. I would love to see Edith perform at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA. Where can I purchase her demo CD?
Thank you,
Maria
