Cranky crockery
Friday November 21, 2003 – 1:58 amForget what I said before, I want a root canal, right now! The sooner the better! The pain has escalated all day today, and has narrowed down to one tooth throbbing like a mofo and screaming in protest when I dare to bite down. Plus another one in the back which isn’t too happy, but mostly this one in the front. I had called the dental office around 3pm but they were already closed for the weekend. So I waited a few hours and then did the unthinkable, I called my dentist AT HOME. He was so nice… I’m meeting him at his office in the morning, on a Saturday! Whoo-hoo!!!! I don’t know what I would’ve done if I’d had to wait until Monday. Now I just gotta get through the next fifteen or so hours. All I got is 200mg Ibuprofin, it ain’t cuttin’ it. AAiiiiiieeeee!!!!

And how didst thou fairest with the toothsawbones this Saturday morn? I hope that thine smile feels betterest. It appeareth to thine Richard the Black as though ye hath many a trial with the contents of your smile. I hope ye hath a good health insurance policy.
Aye! That soundeth much like a lyric…”the contents of your smile." Mayhap ye olde Richard still hath a song to sing from deep within his gnarled undercarriage…
"Yo ho ho, and a bottle of pills…my cats be sleeping on the window sills…"
Zounds! Away with me! I’m off to plunder the frozen food fish section! A quest for the ultimate shrimp ring!
I hope that this message finds ye well, and in good spirits.
Cheers!

Thanks Richard. I got a root canal but it feels like I need my whole damn mouth removed! I’m hurting real bad but I have Tylenol 3 now, and antibiotics. Hopefully it’ll stop hurting so much as soon as those antibiotics kick in — it’s really the infection causing the pressure causing the pain. The tooth was abcessed (sp?), there was no nerve left inside. I fear it’s not the only one in that condition, but can only wait to see if this one root canal will do the trick. He’s keeping my appointment on Monday open in case I need it, but hopefully I won’t!!!!!!!

They started the root canal without waiting for the abcess to get better?

OK, I exaggerated, he said it was "the beginnings of" an abcess; it wasn’t even visible on the x-ray. Sure hurt like hell though! But I don’t think there was much to it as far as the root canal went, since the nerve didn’t even exist anymore. Just scraped it out and filled it back up. I’ll be wanting a proper crown at some point but for now it should be fine. Cosmetically you can’t tell anything was done, though I can feel the filling on the back where it used to be smooth.
BTW *thank god* the pain medication is doing its job!! I only feel a little bit sore now, whereas this afternoon I was literally in tears from the pain (poor John having to witness this). I’m on my 2nd antibiotic pill now… I think by tomorrow morning it will have kicked in fully and I’ll really feel a lot better. Sorry all you guys had to listen to me whine for the past few days. Then again, yesterday was fucking horrible!! I can’t remember ever being in *that* much pain in my whole entire life, I guess I had to at least mention it. And there was obviously nothing wrong with my fingers, heheh!

ouch…there isn’t a word in the language to really describe in written form THAT kind of pain. Just stay doped up, and as John said (feeling so truly helpless to ease your agony): this too shall pass. It’s about all you can say to one feeling that way. At least you were able to call the dentist at home and get it dealt with on a Saturday. Yeah, it’s a mofo, these dental intrusions into an otherwise livable life. We’re all sending positive healing vibes ‘n libations your way, so you can be yo’self, again and enjoy that lovely new blue guitar of yours.
