Daddy done good
Sunday July 13, 2003 – 5:49 amMy dad’s through with his surgery (for the 13th time or something?) and it all went fine. Yayyyy!! Now he has a pin and plate in both hips, so we’ll be calling him RoboDad. John and I were having dinner with his parents out in the ‘burbs, it was great to see them. I had my cellphone with me so I could find out how the surgery went. As soon as Lucie called and told me everything was okay, I started bawling right there at the table. Only for a couple of seconds, it was okay. It was partly out of relief, but mainly because the phone’s buzzing against my hip had startled the living shit out of me!! That vibrate setting is outta control, man. Practically gives me a heart attack every time I get a phone call, but what are you gonna do. Better than letting it ring and annoying all the other diners.
I’ll be talking to him tomorrow after the dope wears off. Everybody get some sleep!!

Beepilepsy is what Jodi Shapiro calls that sudden spastic jolt that you get from a cellphone ring or pager page. I think that’s pretty right on.

To elaborate on a minor detail in life (after all, isn’t that what a blog is so perfect for?): Yes, that beepilepsy is funny/embarrassing. What’s worse is if you live in the burbs and have the Invisible Fence installed, and you happen to have your pooch’s collar off, and have that collar tucked in your back pocket, with the metal prongs inadvertantly facing your butt, (for some insane reason), and you thoughtlessly cross that invisible line and get the ass-zap of your life! It would be funny if it was a scene in some dumb comedy — it’s electroshock torture when it happens in real life. I know, been there, done that. I know, some will say ya get what you deserve for having that mean invisible electric fence in the first place.

Beepilepsy! It still happens to me, and makes everyone laugh when it does.
Glad your dad is fine!
