Downloads from KVRX
Saturday July 24, 2004 – 9:55 pmI just noticed that KVRX in Austin posted a couple of MP3s from a performance I did there on 5/10/1998… "Dreamers" and "The Very Earth". I found ‘em on my own, I wonder how long they’ve been up there? I wish people would let me know about these things, jeez! It was a difficult show, I think mainly because there were no monitors or headphones. The tracks don’t sound quite as bad as I remember, though the ol’ guitar’s pretty tinny-sounding (my fault, not theirs) and I screwed up the words a little on "Dreamers" too. Ahhh… live radio, terrifying and horrible, but yet… not that bad in retrospect I guess.

Thanks for the link Edith. I was listening to Demos just yesterday. It reminded me how much I love your melodies, riffs (or at least chord structures) and lyrics. You aint bad for someone who (like myself) can’t write a review for beans.

Isn’t their redesign fab? I know the guys who did the site, and chatted them up about it. They moved have it all in a database backend, and they’re trying to move as much live content as they can this summer.

Michael… ha ha!! I don’t really do riffs, do I? Been playing guitar 25 years now and I’m still basically using the same chunky-chunky rhythm style I always did. I cannot play with a pick to save my life, it’s like using chopsticks… they go flyin’ out of my fingers and I just give up every time I try.
Chris… it is a nice redesign but I still wish they’d ask the musicians’ permission before using our work as content for their site. Or at least give us the courtesy of telling us they’re doing that. It was live radio so I guess it’s fair game in a way, but still. They had asked me some years back if they could use one of those tracks for a compilation they were doing, and I declined because at the time it just sounded too horrible to my ears, I didn’t want it getting out there any more than it already had by being on live radio. I guess they didn’t ask because they figured I’d say no. I can’t think of any time that I was really satisfied with any live recording, much less that one, where I couldn’t hear myself or the bassist. That’s probably why I screwed up the lyrics, I was panicking!
