Exciting stuff (for me!)
Wednesday May 19, 2004 – 8:53 amIn just a few hours here, or at least by morning, my new (old?) Demos album on Comfort Stand will be unveiled. I’m very psyched!!!!!!!!! Will post a link as soon as it goes live. Davina’s artwork is just… beautiful. Really lovely, at least I think so, and it totally "goes with" the rest of my catalog artwise. Also, the MP3s sound amazing now, thanks to the elves at Comfort Stand who trimmed ‘n’ tucked ‘n’ squeegee’d and slapped ‘em into shape. Of course they are demos, they don’t sound at all like I went into a studio to make ‘em, but at least the volumes are all normalized relative to each other, the 4-track hiss has been reined in a bit, some digital clicks and punch-in noises have been removed, etc. etc. All with my hearty approval, of course.
On another topic, I wanna say thanks to my new sitemember "D" for giving me a little kick in the butt. Lemme explain… we were yakking over e-mail about ExpressionEngine, and he mentioned how much slower it seemed to be on my site than it is on his. Hers? Omigod, I have no idea, I just realized!! Anyway my webhost (ICDSoft) has a newish data center in the US — my site is hosted in their older, original data center in Hong Kong. So I thought about what he said, and thought, "Hot damn, I should ask them if I can move my site to their US server." So I did, and they said "Of course you can!" Well, I guess that’s what the thing is FOR, but it just never occurred to me to ask. So, they’ve set me up with an a new login over there. I’ll be moving my files over the next few days, will get EE running, and when everything’s looking good I’ll tell GoDaddy to change the edithfrost.com DNS numbers to point to the new server. Then I wait for the numbers to propagate, and hopefully by this time next week I can write ‘em back and let them know they can delete the account on the HK side. This makes me VERY happy because really the one thing I *wasn’t* happy about regarding their service, was the sheer distance and resulting 10-15 second pageloads. The new server should be a whole lot zippier just because it ain’t in freakin’ Hong Kong. Which is a very lovely place I’m sure!! Just too far away for me though.
The move should be transparent to you guys; the address will remain the same of course and the only difference will be that it’s faster. I’m just telling you because I’m excited. Faster is good. :-)
