EZ cap #3

A new hat! Using a pattern by Elizabeth Zimmermann (for the third time). This one’s for myself, I think. And I’m not going to felt it this time. :-)
I used Patons Decor yarn in the Secret Garden variegated colorway. Mostly acrylic, but whatever.

OMG, Edith! It’s so kewl you’re knitting!
Did you know that The Yarn Tree — the hottest yard store in New York — is on Bedford Avenue at South 4th, just around the corner from your old place?
I am very interested in learning how to knit, although here in Houston, it’s really too hot for wool, and moths are very abundant.
Can you knit in cotton? Or is that insane?
;)

Thanks Deborah! You can totally knit with cotton. I make a lot of dishcloths with cotton yarn (Lily Sugar & Cream is one that’s cheap as hell and easy to find). It’s a little rough on your hands compared to wool, and it’s not as stretchy, but it totally works. And there are good cotton yarns you can use, like Cascade Sierra is gorgeous. I learned how to knit off YouTube, you should do it too! I think you’d really take to it. I have two painter pals, you and Davina, and she already got into it in a big way… check this shit out.
