i would like a gmail invite. (address removed)
February 11th, 2005 at 1:03 pm
Okay… I took a wild guess at your last name. And I edited out your e-mail address from the body of the message, to protect you from spam. Maybe I wasn’t too clear about that, so for the others please only put addresses in the *slot* where e-mail goes, and please give me a 2-word name to use.

jeez, i just got 50 too. and i haven’t invited that many people even. why don’t they just make it public already?
i’m suspicious that it’s just a big experiment by google in connectivity.

Hi, are you still giving away gmail invites?:)
August 3rd, 2005 at 6:12 am
Well it let me send it without a name this time so I guess I don’t have to worry ’bout that anymore!
August 3rd, 2005 at 12:35 pm
hey, i want one too… aw, wait, i already have one.
i like the theory about why they aren’t public — although maybe they’re truly still workin’ on it. lord knows they need to add a "list" function so you can send to a bunch of people without jumping through hoops…

Hi Edith,
thanks in advance if you still got an invite left!

Thanks a lot now for real!
I’ve already registered… :)

That’s weird, your address is at googlemail.com instead of gmail.com? Was that a choice they gave you or is that just what they’re using now?
August 4th, 2005 at 7:56 am
Don’t know how that is meant to be. I registered and it turned out a @googlemail.com (didn’t give any choice). But it works with the same name @gmail.com as well. Whatever. Oh wait, I just searched and found this:
"Google’s e-mail service Google Mail is no longer issuing addresses for Germany from the domain gmail.com. The service now only provides addresses for the domain googlemail.com because of a legal dispute over the brand name Gmail. Hamburg entrepreneur Daniel Giersch, holder of the brand "G-Mail … und die Post geht richtig ab" (G-mail… the best way to go postal) has been granted a temporary restraining order to prevent Google from using the designation "Gmail” in Germany. In particular, Google has been banned from providing e-mail addresses with the domain ending gmail.com to German users. The service has therefore been moved from http://www.gmail.com to the server at mail.google.com."
*rofl* | Anyways, works with both :)

It looks from the referenced article that now even persons without a cell phone or regular email address (or unwilling to give them) can still receive a Gmail invite.

Not according to the FAQ I found at Google. But I can’t imagine they’d wait much longer, I mean jeez it’s been like seventeen years in beta.
BTW I am sending out all the invites people are asking for, just getting lazy about posting replies here.
