Got a real gig
Wednesday November 18, 1992 – 8:59 pmNote: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.
Jeff and I finally rehearsed again tonight. Last night he called it off because he had a sore throat, so I worked on words for that Jinx of Love thing. I played it for him and we might even do it tomorrow at Open Mic.
Yesterday after work I talked to Nora about the gig on Jan. 2nd. She wrote it in the book and everything. We hadn’t arrived at a name yet, so for the purposes of the calendar I just told her to say Jeff + Edith. Or rather Edith + Jeff. I want to use the name "The Walkers" but he didn’t act too thrilled about that idea. So anyway, we’re all set to play with Poor Lyrics.
I think I’m going to have to quit doing Open Mics after tomorrow, until this gig’s over. One, because I want to avoid overexposure, what with the Jackaroos etc., and two because we/I really need to do some serious rehearsing for this thing. I think we have 5 or 6 of my songs we can do, plus whatever else to make up 40 minutes.
Jeff is going to Austin for the holidays, he’s gonna be working on his mom’s house or something to make some money. He’s coming back Dec. 28th, so we’d better start fuckin’ rehearsing! (No "and" there. I wish.)
He said there might be a small possibility that he’d have to stay in Austin longer due to money. I’m not sure what I’ll do if that happens, I just hope it doesn’t. I guess I’ll just let it be a challenge to me like I did the last time I played with Peter. But Nora might get pissed, I don’t know. I am so scared and excited! 40 minutes seems like forever!
I’ve been hanging out with D. on a daily basis. Last night I was working on the new tune when he called from the pay phone at the Ships Mast. I said I wasn’t coming but I did, later, anyway, but he had just left five minutes earlier, according to Nora. He was supposedly coming back in 10 minutes but after 45 minutes I took off. He called me not 15 minutes later so I had to go back. Jessica was there and Diane showed up too. Later we dropped Diane off at the L Cafe and he drove us over to Coyote to park and smoke.
Today D. came over from the Right Bank on his way to the Ships Mast. We did some bongs and watched some Lou Reed videos. I like D. a lot, we enjoy each other’s company all the time.
Skip H. called me from Austin, but we were rehearsing. I need to call him back tomorrow.
