Home sweet home
Sunday October 12, 2003 – 6:54 amJohn’s back home now, he spent the last three days at his family reunion thing outside of Cleveland. I’m glad he’s back ‘cuz I was bored shitless and the cats were bouncing off the walls all weekend too. Watching baseball isn’t nearly as much fun when you’re all by yourself! Of course today’s game was nothing to cheer about, but at least it means they’re coming back to Chicago and will have the home-field advantage. Speaking of home, I’m very glad to report that Daddy’s back in San Antonio now after spending many weeks in a rehab center in Sacramento recovering from his surgery. He’s pretty worn out from the travelling, but he sounds very relieved to be outta there and back where he should be. So, things are good. I have another new tune or two brewing in the kettle and hopefully will get them demo’ed this week, and maybe my new guitar will arrive? Hope so anyway. I can’t wait for Rian to get home from touring; I’m getting antsy to start recording that 4th album! Hopefully he’ll dig the new tunes and we won’t have to wait much longer. God knows what he has in mind for me this time. I’d love to record at Electrical again but Steve’s a busy man so we’ll have to wait and see if that’s even possible.

Sorry this is kind of off-topic but I was wondering when you are going to play some shows?
I’m a fan and have yet to see you play live. Anyway, I’m in Austin so next time your here think about maybe playing a show for us! Though, it’s great to hear about new material in the works. I’m looking forward to it.
Regards,

You know I’m from Austin right? I am going down there presently, but just for a visit with the folks, not with the band. (”The band? What band?”) Don’t know when I’ll be touring but I always try to make it down there. I usually break up the U.S. into 2 big loops, one heading east of Chicago and one heading west — Austin is in the middle so it could work out either way.

Well, if you don’t get to work with Mr. Albini at Electric again, where would you like to record instead? Is there someone you’ve never worked with that you’d like to…

I don’t know, Ry Cooder? Billy Sherrill? (Well, I can dream can’t I?)

As a first time poster, I would just like to express my love for your records. I am glad to hear that you are going to be recording again in the near future. I have a few questions, have you ever played in Lawrence Kansas? Also have you ever thought about working with Phil Elvrum of the Microphones? His production is really good, not to mnention his music.

Thanks for the niceness!! We were just yammerin’, I already have a great producer, Rian Murphy. And I’m sure we’ll go to Electrical, unless we don’t.
I’ll be back around Lawrence at some point… I’ve only been there once, in ‘99 at the Bottleneck opening for Lullaby for the Working Class. I was in Kansas City at the Hurricane on 9/10/2001. I wish I didn’t have to remember that day as clearly as I do.

hi, just to say that i woke up with your "cars and parties" song and everything seems to be going well now. to stay with todays topic: recording at electrical must be like heaven. but there’s another thing i would like to ask you: have you ever filmed something or done something with a camera? (i’ve seen video uploaded here, but i can’t open it) (slow school computer) i’m making a dvd-r compilation now and i was wondering if you had made something, not technical clean things but more like charming lofi short films… anyway, to much to explain, but there’s info on my small website(www.endlesswebsite.tk), it’s under "anywhere the snot flows". hope to hear from you soon, all the best, floris

I never had a video camera so I haven’t tried making movies yet. I take still pictures all the time though; some of them are posted over here…
