I’m a cowboy
Tuesday August 26, 2003 – 6:28 amI think I’m ready now. I’ve deleted as much as I can off my iBook’s hard drive. I am now going to attempt to partition it and install Yellow Dog Linux* as a dual-boot with OS X. I’m excited, and a little scared, but mostly excited. Wish me luck!
* Much thanks to Rob J. for the suggestion, and for the nice birthday e-mail to which I utterly failed to reply.

It seems I won’t be able to do this without reformatting my whole damn drive and reinstalling OSX so I can use the stupid Drive Setup utility to make another partition. What a bummer! I’m trying to see if there’s any way around this. Ugh. It’ll take me days to get everything in order if I have to do that. Why can’t it just use my free space and do it for me? Waaaahhh!!

It’s true. I have to wipe the drive, Rob confirmed it. It’s not going to be quite as easy as it was when I did it on the PC, since my whole geeky life is on this machine! I’m going to have to be careful and take my time to be sure I have all my ducks in a row before I do it. But all my stuff is pretty neatly arranged, ’cause I’m such a backup freak… it won’t be too hard, but it will take awhile. Ugh. It’s more than I bargained for, but oh well. I really do want to run Linux on this thing, and I really don’t want to totally give up OSX to do that, so… gotta do it right. :-|
