Saturday October 11, 2003 – 7:04 amCubs win again!!!! Horns are honking, firecrackers are going off in our neighborhood, people are shrieking and yelling. Are we going to the freakin’ World Series? Can someone explain what is going on here? I wish I could read some kind of Baseball for Dummies type thing. From what I understand, tomorrow’s game will decide it, but if we win, are we really going and who are we up against? This is so exciting and I barely know what’s going on!!!

I think the reason for all the commotion is because the Cubs are *thisclose* to their first World Series appearance since 1945. If the Cubs win tomorrow’s game, they go against whoever wins the AL series (currently between the Yankees and Red Sox). Since Game 3 was tonight (giving the Yanks a 2-1 lead), the earliest a winner will possibly be determined will be on Monday night.
The World Series itself begins on the 18th, since all the playoffs are scheduled to finish by then. The first two and last two games (if necessary) will be at the ALCS winner’s stadium, and the middle three will be at the NLCS winner’s stadium. If the Cubs are going, there will be tickets to those middle three games available pretty soon, though for how much and by what channels I have no clue.
If the Cubs do go to the World Series, I suspect I will take a few days off work and go back to Chicago to join in the playoff reverie (and, err, see my family). :)

Thank you, Help Desk!! That ROCKS!! If we have to play the Yankees I don’t know what I’ll do, ‘cuz that’s the only other team I’ve ever rooted for. But hey… I’m a Chicagoan now and proud of it. It’s awfully hard to believe but I think they actually will make it to the Series. What if they win? Didn’t you tell me that’ll be the sign of the coming of the Apocalypse? I think I’d better get my affairs in order… ;-)

I hope it is a Red Sox-Cubs World Series… if either team one the world series, it would be ending a curse… but I’d still want the cubs to win…
