Japanese Rumba: A Yakuza Compilation
©1999 Yakuza Magazine #YAK-5
Released with the 10th issue of Yakuza, a magazine which is now out of print and gone from the web, though you may still be able to get a copy directly from its publisher David McGurgan. I’ve posted an MP3 of the song I contributed, When The Bees Are In The Hive.
The compilation featured other tracks by Sam Prekop, The Azusa Plane, The Binary System, John Vallier, Sonic Youth, Caterpillar, Sparkillepsy (Jason from Sebadoh), C4AM95, Optiganally Yours, Lenola, Crib, Skinner Pilot, The Lonesome Organist, Suzanne Langille & Loren Mazzacane Connors.
"When The Bees Are In The Hive" is a cover of an old Girls of the Golden West tune, recorded with Michael Krassner at Truckstop. It is previously unreleased.
Portions of the proceeds of the CD were donated to the American Heart Association in memory of Chuck McGurgan.

Your version of “When The Bees Are In The Hive” is a piece of sweet lovely tune and I like it very much! I wish I can have a copy of this CD but I dun think it’d be easy…

That’s why I avoid doing one-offs like this. The benefit aspect was great, and I was happy to be included, but OTOH I like the song a lot too and I hate the fact that you can’t get it easily anymore.
I think I’m going to write the guy and ask him if he wouldn’t mind if I put it up as an MP3 or somethin’. I don’t even know if I can track him down though, it’s been so long.

Many thanks for the tune! I still remember the first time I learn this song was on 12 of Oct, 1999; when Mr John Peel plays your tune in his show for the BBC World Service. I then decided to make recording of his show and I still doing that nowadays… Over the years I kept playing this very 1st JP show on my computer so many times and your tune really have a deep impression to me, Thanks again, Edith!
