MP3s are back
Thursday February 2, 2006 – 2:58 pmJeez I haven’t blogged in a week!! Pretty crazy around here getting ready for the tour. Lots to talk about but my mind is going blank right now, and I have to bolt anyway. So I’ll just let y’all know that I’m paid up with my webhost for the overtraffic in January… I un-hid the MP3 and video folders but don’t go too crazy y’all. Well I mean, don’t worry, it was never my *readers* that caused a problem, just BOTS, plus that one high-traffic blogger who linked straight to my bigass video files. My htaccess file doesn’t allow for remote hotlinking (i.e., showing my videos on somebody else’s page) but this was just normal linking and I don’t know how to prevent that. There must be a way to use htaccess to disallow regular links to multimedia files (as opposed to html or php files) but it’s been so long since I studied that shit, I don’t know. No time to do my damn homework either.

Edith,
You can upload your videos to Google Video or YouTube and this way you don’t ever have to worry about bandwidth limits..

Yeah I’ve thought about that, and Archive.org too. I mean on the one hand it’s the first time this has happened; I’ve never gone into overtraffic before in all my ~12 years of webmistressing. But on the other hand if it only takes like 200 downloads of one thing to push me over, well… I am kinda beggin’ for trouble I guess. I’ll look into it, thanks for the reminder. I’m pretty sure Google would be the one I’d pick out of those three, I just like the interface the best. Plus I’ve been drinking their koolaid for so many years it’s a natural.

Edith,
I’m new to your music and I’d just like to say Thank You very much. I’m enthralled with the way you make it. I recently heard you streamed at Viceland.com and then at the comfort stand. I will try my hardest to get to Somerville, MA, Feb 20 to give you a live listening to. Please play in Providence sometime, If’n you do I’ll cook you dinner. Have a nice tour. s.

Hi, Edith…
Sorry it’s taken so long to get around to get around to posting, but here’s a big hug-and-a-kiss to you from us here in Katoomba, in eastern Oz.
There’s a bunch of us here @ BLU FM that dig your stuff… What’s The Use & Mirage have been getting a lot of airplay on my own program.
I always say this to people whose music I love (just ask Kristin Hersh next time you run into her..) but when are you going to come & pay us a visit?? Hope it’s soon… I guaran-damn-tee you it would be a success. Let me know if you need some suggestions for agents here.
ok… all the best.. & thanks again for the music.
cheers-
Francis.

Thanks Francis… I do think the chances of me getting over there are better than they ever were, now that the record’s been picked up by Spunk (little plug there, heheh). I have my work cut out for me over the next four months though… I’m hoping it can happen sometime after that but we’ll see. I’m just not much of a road-hog (air-hog?) but I’m trying my best to get better at that and cover more places I haven’t been before.
