Mystery Song 045
Tuesday July 8, 2003 – 10:31 amLast week’s Mystery Song was a live outtake of "Are You Lonesome Tonight", attempted by Elvis Presley. I have no idea what was going on there, but he could NOT stop laughing!! It’s from a Swedish compilation; I got it from a member of my old Incredibly Strange Music group on Audiogalaxy.
This week’s song is ready, as usual! Don’t spoil the surprise, now…

i can remember that version of ‘are you lonesome tonight’ as well.. well not remember it because i wasn’t born then i think.
the reason elvis was laughing was that there was a bold man sitting in the audience that caught his eye. then he started to play around with the lyrics and said something like"
"Now the stage is bare and Im standing there"
and he adds:
"without any hair"
and goes into a laughing fit that he can’t recover from..

Most likely he was under the influence of some controlled substance or another. There’s an album full of Elvy’s rambling between-song patter (“Having Fun With Elvis On Stage”), where he just sounds completely out of his mind. Also, on the album "Moody Blue," he screws up a version of "Little Darlin’" ("…and to hold in mine, your little foot– er, HAND”).
