Neil Hamburger
Saturday July 12, 2003 – 8:56 amJohn and I went to see my labelmate Neil Hamburger (America’s Funnyman) doing an early show at the Empty Bottle this evening. He was great, if you like that sort of thing, and I really do. The place was a lot more packed that I thought it would be… good for him!! I’d never seen him live before, except for the time he emcee’d the Drag City Revue I played at years ago in NYC. But that time he was hiding backstage to do his jokes; this time I got to see him in all his bumbling glory. He told a lot of great/awful jokes, people were really into it. It was cool, I’m glad I made it out to see him. I tried to take some pictures but none of ‘em came out worth a damn, oh well.
I talked a little with Rian and the other Drag City folks afterward; they know what’s going on and were telling me they were sorry to hear it, etc. I’m afraid all I could do was be a bummer… I guess my naturally sad face must have looked even sadder than normal! But at least it no longer sported the Monster Zit From Hell that I had the last time they saw me, heheh.
John took me to a Mexican restaurant after the show, we had the whole place to ourselves. John’s gone off again to see King Kong at the Abbey Pub, but I stayed home so I could relax and enjoy the quiet. There were no messages waiting on the phone, and I was glad. No news is good news indeed. :-)
