Hello…sorry this has nothing to do with this particular entry, but I was cruising around on archive.org and some sites I looked up were not archived because of robots.txt. You, being web saavy and mentioning all sorts of applications I’ve never heard of, I figured your site would have that too, and it did. How does one put the robots.txt on their site? I have one that I don’t want to be archived, to avoid google picture searches and so on. I’m more of a webamateur than a webmaster, and was wondering how difficult or easy it is to do this.

It’s easy, you just pop a few lines into a text file and put it in the root folder of your webserver. There are instructions at archive.org…
http://www.archive.org/about/exclude.php
…and also at Google…

If you want a basic tutorial on the usage of robots.txt, try this:

Hey Edith,
I’m trying to find an old pal (Steve D. - Pedal Steel, etc.) you worked with a few years back. He moved from Chicago and was living in Paonia, then moved SOMEWHERE else when I tried to contact him — God knows where. He’s a Sagitarius so it’s to be expected, but I’m a Capricorn and I hate to lose touch. After scouring the web for clues, I thought I’d drop you a line. If you have any news, or an email address, I would be forever grateful.
Regards,
Emily

I’ll see if I can scare him up. I have an old address though… just sent a mail and it did not bounce back, so that’s a good sign. Still if it doesn’t work I’ll ask our mutual friend Ryan Hembrey, but he’s on tour through the 8th and probably won’t respond before then. If you don’t hear from him, remind me in a week or so and I’ll try again! I might forget, see, ‘cuz I’m moving and stuff.
