I just finished making my mix for the annual Rock For Kids auction of mix CDs, to benefit their music education program.  The auction’s being held Thursday the 22nd at the Smart Bar, and out-of-towners can bid by proxy as always (hi Clay!) so follow the link on their website if you’d like to place a bid.

My CD came out really cool and tripped-out.  I had to go over the mixes I did for 2003 and 2004 to avoid repeats… I have them organized as playlists in my iPod.  They’re so much fun to listen to, I still love all those songs!  So I stuck with that formula: just crankin’ out my most favorite tunes old and new, the most beautiful, sad, spooky, eclectic, haunting and delightful stuff in my collection.  I got a million of ‘em too… every time I look at those lists I come up with 10 other songs I can’t believe I didn’t include before.  It was harder than ever this time, I had to cull like 4 hours of great music into just 74 minutes of solid gold.  Of course I won’t be able to share the tracklist with y’all until the auction’s over, but even if you knew the tracklist, there’s no way you have access to all this messed-up shit in my collection!  So you might as well place yer bid now.  (smile)

The CD is due at the R4K office this week, so that gives me a day or so to work on the art.  I do it in a jewel case and decorate a booklet with crayons and felt-tip pens.  So it’s no big deal, but I usually screw it up a few times before I come up with one that’s decent.  Most people go to great efforts to make really elaborate original covers for this auction, but mine have all been pretty basic.  I put more effort into the mix, the choosing of songs.
