One of everything!
Wednesday May 29, 2002 – 6:40 amI decided awhile ago that I’m going to order something at Laurie’s, and when that something comes in, I’m going to order something else, and so on until all the CDs I want are purchased… yeah right!! So last time when I was picking up the Danielle Howle, I indeed ordered another one, which I picked up today. It’s "Take A Picture" by Margo Guryan. And I ordered still another one today, for the next time: Mary Schneider’s Yodeling The Classics. Of course I already had all this stuff on MP3, but that’s kinda like having something on cassette… if you really love it, you want to own the real thing!
More pictures up
Tuesday May 28, 2002 – 1:43 amDid some adding and preening on the "my pictures" section of the photo gallery…
Zoo trip
Monday May 27, 2002 – 9:10 amToday (I mean yesterday!) was Memorial Day so John had the day off. We hopped on the train and went to the zoo. I love the zoo!! :-D I’m of course talking about the Lincoln Park Zoo here in Chicago. It’s nice because it’s free, and very open and strollable. Right now it’s a little sparse because half the zoo is being rebuilt, and a lot of the animals have been moved to other zoos. So there were no elephants, rhinos, giraffes or hippos, but we did get to see the bears, the big cats and the birds. My favorite exhibit is the sea lion tank right at the entrance of the park… you can go underground to view the action through the glass, but the water was all cloudy today so you couldn’t see anything, oh well.
Audiogalaxy lawsuit
Sunday May 26, 2002 – 1:59 amJust heard about the RIAA’s lawsuit against Audiogalaxy. I figured it was only a matter of time. :-(
Spam infection
Saturday May 25, 2002 – 11:44 amDid you ever notice that you get less spam on the weekends, especially holiday weekends? I tend to think it’s because whenever I do get spam, it’s because some asshole out there has pressed the "send" button shortly before that. They may be using mass-mailer software, but somebody has to say "Go!" It’s just weird to imagine the people behind the curtain. If they’re sending their crap out mostly on weekdays from 9-5, that means it’s a regular job for them. And they must have actual lives and families, and they prefer not to spend their weekends selling Viagra or whatever. Well you know what I think? This world is too fucking overpopulated! Those people need to figure out a better way to make a living. And it doesn’t help that we don’t have better technology to prevent it in the first place. There are zillions of messages floating around with forged headers — how come they make it so easy for people to do that?
Pot roast night
Saturday May 25, 2002 – 2:51 amJohn’s cooking a great big pot roast, and we’ve been cleaning the apartment. Of course when I say "we", I mean that I cleaned the fish tank and he did everything else. (smile) We walked over to Laurie’s earlier so I could pick up the CD I ordered (the new Danielle Howle). It’s pretty chilly outside so it’s a good day to stick close to home.
We had dinner last night at my favorite Mexican food restaurant in town, Abril. I always get the chicken enchiladas with mole.

Sharity battles Finder bug
Friday May 24, 2002 – 1:07 amI submitted a bug report to Sharity, and a guy wrote me back almost immediately asking me for more details on the steps I was following to create the aforementioned bug. I reproduced the error again and told him the steps. He wrote back today and said he was also able to more or less recreate the problem. He explained a little more about what’s going on behind the scenes at the moment the bug occurs. It seems to be an issue in OS X’s Finder rather than Sharity itself. Something about the act of moving a file from a folder on a remote share, to a different folder on the same share. OS X gets totally confused!! So anyway, the nice man at Sharity is submitting a bug report to Apple about it. And I’ll be keeping an eye on the trash can from now on; that’s about all I can do.
Trashed my MP3s
Thursday May 23, 2002 – 1:29 amYet another computer-related complaint: I had a run-in with a really bad bug in Sharity, a bug so gnarly that it trashed a couple of gigs worth of my MP3s. Most of them were already burnt to CD but I did lose some stuff I’m kinda pissed about. Songs I was getting ready to burn to CD. Oh well, easy come easy go!! I mean, I’m using the freeware version of the program after all, and I am getting a lot of good use out of it. Just have to pay attention when it starts acting weird, ‘cuz if I log off the network and log back on again, it works normally again. And I will NEVER empty my trash again without looking to see what’s in there!!! Because what happens is, Sharity will at times pick some random remote folders and put them in your trash can. If you log off the network without emptying your trash, the files are left untouched and the trash-can icon goes back to showing as empty. Log back onto the network and things are normal again, empty trash can. Work for awhile and then all of the sudden, some other folders appear in your trash for no reason. The first time this happened to me, I didn’t look to see what was actually in the trash, I just emptied it. I see the progress-meter pop up telling me zillions of files are being deleted; I panic and hit "cancel" but by that time several important folders are gonesily-wonesily. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
Netscape 7 is buggin’
Thursday May 23, 2002 – 1:11 amNetscape 7 is buggin’ out on me. You won’t know what I’m talking about unless you’ve tried it, but… I had set up a couple of sidebars yesterday, and now I go back to look at them and the whole sidebar column is empty, and it won’t let me add any new ones. The whole chooser panel is blank. Oh well, guess I won’t be using the sidebar!

Not much to blog
Wednesday May 22, 2002 – 5:20 amNot much to blog about. The Hasil Adkins show was great, I even got a few pictures which I’ll post in the gallery as soon as I get around to it.
At the moment I’m trying out the new Netscape 7 PR1. It’s neato. The grooviest feature is that you can browse multiple pages in the same tabbed window. They should have come up with that a long time ago.
