Klez worm posing as me

It has come to my attention that the Klez worm has hijacked my e-mail address again, and is sending out messages from some goddamn machine out there using my address as the (spoofed) sender.  So if you get a copy of this worm with my return address, IT WASN’T FROM ME!!!!

DJ Shadow @ Park West

Sorry I didn’t get around to blogging earlier.  I have everything pretty much reinstalled now, and all data is back where it needs to be.  There wudn’t nothin’ to it but to do it.

John took me out to see DJ Shadow tonight.  It was awesome!!!  Okay, I know.  The Grand Canyon is awesome.  The Great Pyramid is fucking awesome… I shouldn’t use that word like I’m a surfer dude.  But it was really really great.  It was at Park West; neither of us had been there before.  It’s a pretty nice place, maybe like a snootier version of the Metro.  Or, you might say, a not-so-snooty House of Blues.  (We like to pronounce that with a silent ‘L’.)

Browser wars

Got caught up reading a comments thread that’s been growing over at Mac News Network… I’m sorry, but it’s about the browser wars.  It’s the most boring age-old dumbass question… "which browser is right for me?" But I’ve always been interested in this.  I have to admit that when I turned on my iBook for the first time, I was a little shocked to see Internet Explorer as the default browser.  I guess I was expecting a more Linux-ey setup, using Netscape, or maybe Opera or something, but not IE!!  The last time I had used Mac OS was about 1997, and I guess back then Netscape was the only game in town.  Now there’s so much to choose from…

Reinstalling

I had to reinstall everything on my iBook, yet again.  I don’t want to talk about why, I just did something stupid, screwed myself over and decided to start fresh for the tenth time.  I didn’t lose any actual data that I know of; I used Sharity to back everything up to the PC’s hard drive before I reformatted.  But it’s going to take a day or two to get all my programs reinstalled, so bear with me if I don’t do much blogging.  The internet seems to be working though!  That’s always nice.  :-)

Reinstalling software is infinitely more entertaining than watching the news, which is nothing but depressing.  It’s like a freakin’ world war out there!!  There’s nothing you can do.  You can do your laundry…!!

Segway news

Finally saw another bit of news on the Segway scooter, I mean human transporter.  I’ve been drooling over this thing since it was first announced. Not that I’ll be able to get one — I don’t even know if I would have the nerve to ride it around if I had one!  But I still think it’s the coolest technology to come around the pike in a long time.  I even wrote to Dean Kamen and told him so, back when the story first broke.  :-)

New OS update

Five minutes after I wrote that last one, I found out Apple released a new OS update today… but I’ll have to get it later, there’s a line around the block.  I don’t know if it fixes the Finder bug or not.  Can’t get into Apple, can’t get into Yahoo either.  This whole internet thing is a big crocka… ;-)

Raining cats and spam

It’s been raining cats and dogs for like 24 hours now.  Just hope I can still do laundry; our basement’s always getting flooded in big storms.

Meanwhile, I’m being flooded with e-mail and wondering what (more) I can do to manage it.  Most of it’s junk of course, and most of it is from my Yahoo address, not even the one I give out publicly on the website.  I have a good spam-fighter for the PC called Mailwasher, but haven’t found anything like it for the Mac.  I hate to pay another $25 or whatever just to have the capability of deleting mails on the server…!!

New Mekons album

On Friday Jon Langford gave me a copy of "OOOH! (Out Of Our Heads)", the new Mekons album… I finally got to hear it today.  It’s fantastic. Best album I’ve heard from them yet, and I’m not just saying that ‘cuz I sang on it! ;-) But you might have to wait awhile to hear it; I don’t think it’s coming out until September or something. Which is weird because the copy I got was all shrink-wrapped and ready to go… guess it’s just a scheduling thing.  I can’t even find it listed yet on the Quarterstick website, but it is mentioned on the Mekons’ own website.

Weird noises, creepy bugs

UGH, OS X deleted another bunch of files on my PC.  I thought I’d figured out how to stop it from doing that, but it double-crossed me again, screwing me over in a brand new way.  Speaking of which, I had the dubious honor of contributing Bug #45 to the Sharity bugtracking system. They’re nice enough to warn their users about the problem, even though it’s Apple’s fault, not theirs.

Music vs the heat

The jam session with Via went well, we’re going to get together again next weekend.  I brought my camera this time and took his picture, isn’t that special.

Called Mama to wish her happy birthday, and also got a call from Deborah!  We only talked for a minute or two ‘cuz I was on my cellphone about to leave Ryan’s house, but I’m gonna call her back.  I was supposed to do that earlier this evening, but me and John pigged out on burgers and fell asleep, then woke up and watched two episodes of Doctor Who and I forgot about it.  It was really hot out today, maybe 90, it really takes it outta you.  So I was all tired from lugging the amplifier around in the heat, and John had been traipsing around the city all day too, putting up flyers with Soren for the show they’re doing on June 10th at the Bottle.  M.O.T.O. is opening and John is pulling double duty, playing with Soren’s band Family Haircut and then with his own band too.  He’s a soldier!
