My poor sweet little iBook G4 (named Eskimo after the Residents album of course) is in the shop with what appears to be a failing hard drive.  What is it with me and hard drives?  It happened so fast too.  The poor baby started getting asthma just a few days ago, and as soon as I got home from touring, started locking up bigtime.  I kept having to do the unfortunate holding-down-of-the-power-button thing, staring at the screen woefully ‘cuz the drive’s thrashing and the lights are on but nobody’s home.  Full-blown grand mal seizures.

Luckily I’d backed everything up just before I left for the tour, and had just enough time to rescue the super important data I’d stored between then and now, like the few batches of pictures I’d imported into iPhoto, and the big tour spreadsheet — I would’ve been so screwed if I’d lost that!  But I was able to grab it, and also exported it from Appleworks into Excel format for PC just in case I don’t get the iBook back in working order.  My last Applecare experience was no fun at all, oh boy.  So please Apple, let this one go better for me?  Please?  Just give me a new drive — make it bigger while you’re at it, and none o’ that refurbished shit.  *New* drive free, and get it back to me in a hurry willya?  That would be super.

I’m back to my old insomniac routine of sleeping in two four-hour shifts instead of one eight-hour one.  Whatever works.  At least I didn’t pull that shit on tour and wake up the bandmates with my typing noises!
