Ryan vs Rian
Tuesday September 30, 1997 – 3:00 amDid an interview with a woman named Maya Singer for Soma magazine. She didn’t mind the cats so we did it here at my place. Damn, I think she knows my album better than I do! ;-) It’s always so funny (funny strange, not funny ha-ha) to hear other people talk about my songs and what the lyrics mean to them… I think I’m being quite obvious in my words, but other people might hear things that I’ve never even thought about. I really dig that. It’s like the songs take on a life of their own; I don’t know what the hell they might be saying to people!!
I hope I didn’t sound too loopy during this interview. I had sort of forgotten to eat properly today… you wanna know what I had? Coffee; a muffin; a banana; more coffee; a piece of a co-worker’s birthday cake; a Dr. Pepper; a large mocha, and another Dr. Pepper. Can you say "diabetic coma" ??? I guess I’m still mopey about what happened yesterday; I’m not in the mood to watch my nutrition.
But life goes on, and there are other things happening in my world, good and positive things. And there’s one person in particular who’s doing a whole lot to help me forget all the depressing stuff! ::blush:: I mean, call me boy crazy but Ryan is just such a cutie, it’s hard to think about anything else for very long! I’m diggin’ his company a lot. :-)
Rian Murphy came over tonight to listen to the song me and Krassner did for Yakuza magazine. He liked it a lot… but I didn’t need his validation on that one so much; for some reason I always feel a lot more confident about the country cover songs I do, than my own tunes!
And oh, by the way, I want to make sure that nobody gets confused about this Ryan/Rian thing… when I say "Rian" I mean Rian Murphy, the Drag City dude that produced my album… he’s the lead singer of Chestnut Station, the guy that’s responsible for my whole music career, basically… he’s also been a dear friend to me over the past few years, and he’s one of the funniest, most charming guys I’ve ever met! (Yeah, he’s definitely crush-worthy but he’s always been Off Limits, due to being kinda sorta my boss and all, haha!)
ANYway, that’s Rian Murphy. But when I say "Ryan" I mean Ryan Hembrey, of course. Who needs no introduction but let’s review it anyway <hee hee!>: he plays upright bass, which happens to be my favorite instrument in all of country music. (So of course I’m trying to turn him on to a lot more of that!) He’s cute, he’s tall, he’s funny, real pleasant to hang out with, and I’m diggin’ him the mostest! I guess that about covers it. :-)
…uh, he’s also pretty SHY; I hope this diary thing doesn’t make him think I’m some kind of online freak-a-loid!! I just hope he knows, and everybody else who knows me, knows that I would never ever say anything bad about anybody on my website if I can possibly help it. If I can’t think of something nice to say about somebody, I just won’t talk about them online, that’s always been the case since my first website in ’95… this is a very small e-world and I could get in all kinds of trouble that way. It’s bad enough that I’m divulging all these less-than-flattering things about my OWN self. Letting total strangers read my sick twisted bob-forsaken DREAMS, fer cryin’ out loud! I honestly couldn’t tell you why I put this stuff online, but I’m NOT here to front on anyone or hurt anybody’s feelings, I promise. I’m all about peace love and harmony, man.
Speaking of harmony joyrides, I saw Wesley Willis yesterday, in the fast-food joint across the street. I got a copy of what he said was his newest CD, "Black Light Diner." I could buy a CD from that guy every single time I see him, and never buy the same thing twice… bless his heart, the dude just never runs out of song ideas! Bump my head and say raaaaaaa!
