indio, ca in the summer never made any sense to me. sxsw had over 1,000 artists playing this year - tv on the radio seemed to make the biggest splash here in houston on their way to the conference. there's also a boomer version of sxsw sponsored by austin city limits in september (rem played last year, i think), but the most traditional of the outlaw festivals is kerrville in the spring and fall. slaid cleaves is one of the judges of the "new" talent this spring. http://www.kerrville-music.com/

I don't think it's Alzheimer's when you're not even forty. Unless you were a dedicated follower of the pop music concert scene, there's no reason to ever hear those two words, Bonneroo and Coachella, anyway. But, I hope you've heard of your own home state's SxSW Fest in the hipster capitol of that Lone Star State. And, I don't think anyone would be throwing any cowpies at you, especially at the smaller, homier little fiestas, like Falcon Ridge in Hillsdale, N.Y., on a small farm on a big hillside, where a small crowd of 8,000 would just love your music and buy your CDs. But, I can understand if too much fame, all of a sudden, in a small, unpretentious venue may sound a little intimidating... They have an even smaller venue at the festival, called the songwriter's showcase Friday afternoon, where a small but dedicated crowd of a couple of hundred gather to listen to the new & next best musicians to come along.

It's just plain ignorance 'cuz I never heard those two words in my life. Either that or the Alzheimer's is kicking in way early!

Festivals are scary though. I can go to Six Flags and do "The Big Drop" no problem, but the idea of playing an outdoor music festival is truly frightening. They'd be pelting me with mudcakes for sure.

Your unfamiliarity with these hipster scene events renewed my faith in your True Outsider nature. Even though you're as good as any tortured soul like Thom Yorke, or cute 'n talented Scottish art school ensemble like Belle & Sebastian - they will be there, and you haven't even heard of it. Now you've heard of it. Send your CD's to the organizers if you'd like a chance at being on the stage there next year, if that's the place you want to be on a weekned in June 2005. What "mr. gone" is talking about are these two ultra-groovy outdoor music fests where the bottled water sells for six bucks, and the line up is like a Who's Who's of the coolest of the cool big names in indie music. And, I guess people fly to from all over the country. Coachella is the ultimate outdoor music fest in the desert town of Indio, Califoirnia. Boneroo is the stoner's nirvana of outdoor music fests, in the hills outside Nashville where 75,000+ kids come to spend the weekend together. These are the two cultural/musical heirs to the original Woodstock.

Here's a little non-sequitor for you, edith... any thoughts on coachella and bonnaroo? I'm flying out from Boston for coachella... what do you think of the line-ups? and why aren't you appearing on anything like this, or anywhere near boston for that matter :) any plans on touring this year?

p.s. the resemblance is uncanny.
