Spam infection
Saturday May 25, 2002 – 11:44 amDid you ever notice that you get less spam on the weekends, especially holiday weekends? I tend to think it’s because whenever I do get spam, it’s because some asshole out there has pressed the "send" button shortly before that. They may be using mass-mailer software, but somebody has to say "Go!" It’s just weird to imagine the people behind the curtain. If they’re sending their crap out mostly on weekdays from 9-5, that means it’s a regular job for them. And they must have actual lives and families, and they prefer not to spend their weekends selling Viagra or whatever. Well you know what I think? This world is too fucking overpopulated! Those people need to figure out a better way to make a living. And it doesn’t help that we don’t have better technology to prevent it in the first place. There are zillions of messages floating around with forged headers — how come they make it so easy for people to do that?
Man, somebody needs to write a VIRUS that only targets spammers. Infect all the ISPs’ mail servers all over the world with a little program that eats spam. It constantly examines the incoming and outgoing mail spools and if it finds messages with forged headers, or messages to "unknown recipient" etc., it trashes them. Well, I would never write a virus even if I knew how, and besides I’ve never heard of a virus that attacks mail servers. I’ve never even heard of a virus that’s supposed to do something good for computers… wouldn’t that be funny? Like, a virus that gets in your PC and rotates your log files twice a month. Tee hee!! Or better yet, a vigilante virus that seeks to destroy other viruses, removes all spyware and seals up a PC’s ports to make it more secure. :-)
