- The screen died on my laptop again… took it in and it’s miraculously cured upon arrival @ Apple Store. Makin’ me a little crazy. #

iPod oracle
Thursday April 20, 2006 – 9:04 pmAn iPod-related magic-eightball kinda meme that I stole from somebody’s blog.
Put your music player on shuffle.
Press forward for each question.
Use the song title as the answer to the question even if it doesn’t make sense.

My blog can’t keep up with me
Sunday January 9, 2005 – 10:39 amI wish I could come up with a better way to get my thoughts up here, it’s so much of a chore. It needs to be more like a little notepad where I can jot a bunch of things down real quick instead of creating these humongous catching-up posts where I’m trying to summarize a whole week or two. Bitch bitch bitch!!
Speaking of notepads, have you heard about the latest craze? The low-tech hipster PDA, just a bunch of index cards held together with a binder clip. I love that, it really appeals to my love of list-making and my fetish for office supplies. It also leaves me lusting over fancier things like a Levenger pocket briefcase and a little Moleskine notebook for writing down my song-snippets. I love using my Treo for contact management — I have so many of those it really is a space-saver, but for note-taking, the Treo doesn’t really work too well for me. I like to have notes and to-do lists right in front of my face, not hidden away in a program on my phone that I might never open for weeks!
Eskimo’s got a brand new brain
Monday December 20, 2004 – 6:58 pmI got my laptop back from Apple today; thanks to AppleCare for not telling me I had water damage like they did last time with my old iBook! This time they just put in a new hard drive — and a new keyboard too, dunno why? — and sent it back to the store for me to pick up. There was no extra charge, it was all covered by AppleCare. They gave it new rubber feet and cleaned it off a lot too. I sure am happy to have it back. Of course it’s a pain in the ass to lose all my old stuff, I’ve been messing with it all day reinstalling things, but it sure beats the alternative. Gawd…
Poor little Eskimo
Tuesday December 14, 2004 – 1:44 amMy poor sweet little iBook G4 (named Eskimo after the Residents album of course) is in the shop with what appears to be a failing hard drive. What is it with me and hard drives? It happened so fast too. The poor baby started getting asthma just a few days ago, and as soon as I got home from touring, started locking up bigtime. I kept having to do the unfortunate holding-down-of-the-power-button thing, staring at the screen woefully ‘cuz the drive’s thrashing and the lights are on but nobody’s home. Full-blown grand mal seizures.
Question for Mac browser geeks
Friday July 9, 2004 – 6:56 pmRob? I mean, whoever? In OS X is it possible to create a bookmarklet (favelet) on one’s desktop? They work fine for me inside my browser toolbar, but I can’t seem to drag those little things to my desktop. Any bookmark with an ordinary http: URL works fine; I drag it to the desktop and a .webloc file is created. But when I do the same thing with a bookmarklet, which begins with javascript: instead of http:, the resulting file is a clipping of the text of the bookmarklet, rather than a .webloc file. Does OS X even have a built-in handler for a javascript uri? I couldn’t find anything when I looked for it using RCDefaultApp.
WTF Apple?!?
Wednesday June 23, 2004 – 4:17 pmI just talked to AppleCare again, they got the laptop. They’re telling me there’s been a liquid spillage inside the machine, and therefore any repairs can’t be covered by the warranty. To my knowledge there has never EVER been any liquid anywhere near this machine. So I’m completely baffled and pissed. They’re sending it back, I guess I’ll have to chuck it. What a fucking bummer! Could they be mistaken about a thing like this? I treat my stuff with great care and I reckon I would know if I’d gotten my laptop wet. I haven’t. Ugh.
Yay, I broke it!
Sunday June 20, 2004 – 11:54 amSo! My old iBook is all fuckered up again, whoo-hoo! Just like I promised, I put it through its paces trying to get it to mess up before the AppleCare protection runs out next March. And I’m very very good at what I do. (grin) Well, I wasn’t doing anything outlandish, just running it daily and using iTunes, listening for thunking noises and stuff like that. It was running just fine for several days, but yesterday it froze up a couple of times again — same as before, overheating for no reason, freezing up and requiring a cold reboot. I did hear one more thunk from the hard drive, or maybe it was more like a sharp "DINK!" So after a couple of these reboots, it gave me a blank off-white screen and nothing else, wouldn’t start at all.
(As you can probably tell already, this is going to be another one of those techie rants that will only be interesting to Rob J and maybe two or three other Mac geeks out there. Feel free to continue, but I can’t guarantee your eyes won’t glaze over if you’re not one of those people.)
WOW!!! Airport rocks
Tuesday October 22, 2002 – 5:37 amGuess what! I’m in the Munich airport waiting for my connecting flight to Valencia. I opened up my iBook just for kicks, found an Airport network, and got online!!! I’m very very impressed. Really glad I got that Airport card now.
The flight over here went fine. They didn’t give me any trouble about my guitar case; I was a little worried about that. I sat next to a guy from Munich named Stephane; we spent the whole flight making fun of all the other passengers. Good times. Now I have three hours to kill… uggghh. I’m so tired. It’s 2:14 in the morning for me but 8:30am or something here. Really glad the first show isn’t until tomorrow.
I kinda doubt I’ll be able to get online this easily over the next few weeks, so if you don’t hear from me, you’ll know why!
Steve Jobs keynote
Tuesday July 16, 2002 – 6:39 pmI’m watching Steve Jobs’ keynote speech right now. Testify!! Jaguar, now revealed as Mac OS 10.2, won’t be out until August 24th, and the calendar app won’t be out ’til September. Oh well, but there’s a new iTunes coming out today. They’re coming out with an upgraded iPod, 20 gigs for the same price I paid for my tennie! AND a remote, AND a case. Shit.

Monday July 15, 2002 – 6:26 amThis is fairly interesting… How Steve Jobs got Microsoft to pay for Jaguar’s Development
