Rian really fucked up.  He failed to book Steve for recording in September, so now if we want to work with him we have to wait until November or December.  Bummer!!  But I’m still excited to record with Steve.  Wait’ll I tell Jodi Shapiro, she’s gonna flip.

Saw more old friends this weekend… Daniel Smith was at Electrical mixing the new Danielson Family record with Albini.  I went over there with John on Saturday to hang out and hear a few of the tunes, it sounded really great.  That’s when I bumped into Rian and we all had the discussion on when/if we should schedule recording at Electrical.  I was so pissed at Rian; I spent the better part of the weekend just seething about it.  Hopefully we’ll get it scheduled ASAP and I’ll be able to rest a little easier.  Rian feels pretty bad about it too, he even apologized to John for pissing me off!!

You’re decided

Hey, I finished that song today! I like it, I think it came out good, though I can’t be sure until Rian Murphy hears it and tells me he digs it. (Me and my fragile ego.) Took me all day to sew it together and get it demo’ed, I didn’t even leave the house ’til 9:30!! I think it’s called "You’re Decided"… I was gonna call it "Emotion Detector" but I think that’s too corny. I looked up that title in the BMI database and can’t find anything… of course they had lots of listings for the ol’ chestnut "You’re UNdecided". So that’ll be my little nod to that song. I can’t remember how that goes but I’m sure it’s nothing like what I just did.

Tribune interview by Josh

An interview by Josh Noel that appeared in the Chicago Tribune "Reverb" section…

A multicolored Frost
Drag City songstress plays Empty Bottle and Goose Fest

Whether you interviewed Edith Frost for a half-hour, two hours or even 10 hours, you’d come away with few notes. Most people don’t take notes when talking to their friends, and Frost is so easygoing and candid and so immediately familiar that scribing most of what she says would seem a violation of friendship. Then you remember there is no friendship — you’re working here — so you’d best start writing something.

Moved to Chicago

Well, I have moved my ass to Chicago, y’all! If you’ve arrived at this page then you know I’ve already switched Internet providers… my new e-mail address is XXX (now invalid).

GUESS WHAT… there’s a big fat feature story about my music in this week’s edition of the Chicago Reader. This is the first time I’ve done a real interview for a real newspaper with a real photographer and all. whoah…

I played my first gig in Chicago at the Empty Bottle on Friday night, it went great! I got to open for Rebecca Gates, the singer from the Spinanes, who I dig a lot. You know, she played a cool cover of the Pretenders’ "Talk Of The Town", and I was sick because I had come *this* close to playing an old country tune called "I’m The Talk Of The Town," a totally different song — it would’ve been perfect!! Maybe we oughta do it up as a split single, eh?
