Back to the music grind

This entire month has been one long freeze.  I think this is gonna be that long winter that we tell our grandkids about. Up until a few days ago, the East River was full of mini-icebergs, and totally packed with ice around the sides, something that the old salts say hasn’t happened ever in their lifetimes.  The guy that always kayaks in the East River went out and said it was just like Prince William Sound in Alaska, that is until somebody called the Coast Guard on him to report a man in the water.

Ulnal tunnel syndrome

Well I am Shocked and Amazed that I have neglected writing for so long.  I’ve been involved in a lot of things, and lazy besides.

Ever since I came back from Texas, we’ve had nothing but snow and ice, more snow and more ice — I think three separate snowstorms, making the entire city an ice rink. We had three more inches today, and really, if it rains and turns to ice again I’m gonna get the skates out.  So we haven’t been able to make trips in the car except a few trips for clean clothes & provisions.

Out carousing

Well, it’s my last night in Austin; I’m flying back to Brooklyn at 11:00 tomorrow a.m., as long as the weather clears up in New York, that is! It’s been snowing there. I can’t wait to snuggle up with D. again tomorrow night.

This morning I picked Sandy up so we could take her kitty Felix to Dr. Rob Abraham, the same vet I used to use. While I was waiting, I walked over to Atomic City but it was closed.  After we took Felix back home, we went over to the strip on 38th-1/2 and Lamar to an art gallery to see Steve Wilson’s painted Polaroids. Then we stopped in Lamme’s Candies and I got $25 bucks worth of stuff — $10 going towards Texas Chewy pralines.

Open mike in Austin

Note: This is a journal entry — it was written on paper or on my computer, then transferred to my website, maybe years later.

I’ve just been too busy & lazy to write.  I wanna just do a quick summary if that’s possible…

Monday Mama and I had lunch with Pat Matthews, her old friend we knew from living in Guadalajara. Then we stopped by Music Mania which has quadrupled in size since I used to haunt the place in the days.  I got a whole pile of stuff — LPs I didn’t have by Bonnie Guitar and Jan Howard, some Carpenters singles, a Davis Sisters CD (!), a modern-day Janis Martin (!), the Jo Carol Pierce benefit CD, and I forget what all else.  I was just about to have a coronary when I saw a whole wall of Bear Family box sets.  If I hadn’t seen the Davis & Martin CDs I’d-a bought that Kitty Wells box.

Saw the old gang

Well, today was yet another wringer! It’s 3 A.M. and I’m just exhausted but I know if I don’t write everything down then I’ll forget to later.  Things are happening too fast to skip a day! Well, I have to smoke so I’m gonna go in the bathroom — I did mention the locked window and she told me where the key was hidden — I didn’t see it is all.

Well, let’s see — first thing I called Jeff to touch base — we agreed on the Chicago House open mike tomorrow night. (tonight!)
