Guess what, I just got drunk-dialed!!  Ha ha!!  By a very sweet very good friend who says he or she has been thinkin’ about me and cares a lot and just wanted to, like, reaffirm that good longstanding friendship.  AWWWW!!!!  My heart is full.  That absolutely made my day.  And I don’t even think he or she had seen that blog post I did earlier.  Good timing eh?

Sorry ’bout that last one, really.  I think I said it best myself: friendship can be a very hard thing for some people.  It is for me, and for that person who wasn’t havin’ it, and for my old drunk friend, for lots of people.  It takes a willingness to jump out there and talk to people, talking for its own sake, not with any hidden agenda.  I think human interaction is both an art and a craft, or rather it’s something you can be talented at, or maybe not, maybe you have to work at it a little more than other people to whom it comes naturally.  Bad grammar?

I had the nicest most relaxing most low-key holiday ever!  Well, I got a little homesick on Christmas Eve ‘cuz I couldn’t be with my folks down in Texas.  But oh well, everyone was scattered all over the damn state so it just wasn’t feasible.  I’ll be seeing them pretty soon anyway, or at least I know I’m going down in March for SXSW, if I don’t see them before then.  YES you heard me!!  I’m playing SXSW for the first time, whoo-hoo!!  My agent Derek hooked me up with that gig, bless his heart.  I don’t know exactly when or where I’m playing yet, but I know I’m on the roster and that’s very exciting.

We had fun at the Drag City party.  I got to sing backups for Bonnie Prince Billy!! That was so cool.  He played two songs but I didn’t know the second one so I laid out for that.  It was soooo packed in there.  At midnight I was running around the crowd trying to find John while everybody else was kissing and hugging each other all around me.  One minute later I found him so we did the 12:01 kiss, oh well, same diff.  We didn’t stay very long after that; the Scene Creamers were playing when we bolted around 1.  I didn’t have the nerve to take any pictures, but I should have.  I’m out of the habit; I didn’t take a single picture when we were down in Texas either!

Well hey there, happy new year to ya!! Sorry I’ve been bad again about the diary. It’s not because anything’s wrong, just that I keep getting distracted. I’ve been doing all my diary-entries in my head and forgetting to do the typing part.

(I stole that line from Rennie of the Handsome Family, by the way. She said that about her hubby Brett one time, sort of apologizing for him about not replying to my e-mail in a timely fashion. HA! She’s talking to the queen of old unanswered e-mails.)

Tonight’s my first paying gig ever, so I’m relaxing by myself for awhile — I want to take a nap in a little bit.  Jeff and I went through all the songs earlier today and it all sounded fine.  Hope I didn’t wear out my voice.  It should be really fun tonight.  I wonder if anybody from work will show up, that would be fun to show off in front of them.  I would get a kick out of it if Melanie B. would come especially.  Because I think she would genuinely be into that sort of music.
