I just flat love to sing

Went to Phlossy’s today to lay down some vocals on a song for a new (possible-we’ll-see) Pine Valley Cosmonauts record.  It’s always such a blast working with them!  And very satisfying musically ‘cuz it gives me the chance to drop the indie-folkie schtick and do something completely different, something I’m actually pretty good at.  Western swing I mean, I just really dig that kind of singing.  This new album is a WLS Barn Dance tribute, it’s the jazziest PVC record yet, and I am lovin’ it!!

New Executioner’s Last Songs

Bloodshot just sent me a copy of the new Pine Valley Cosmonauts double-CD, the Executioner’s Last Songs Vol. 2 and 3.  It’s coming out on June 17th… I did harmonies for Sally Timms on the song "Long Black Veil".  It sounds really really nice.  You can read about it on the Bloodshot page, and I’ll post more info here when the time comes.

Weird… I’ve gotten a couple of spams today that had my OWN address as the "sender".  Both were ads for Viagra… no attachments, so I don’t think this has anything to do with the Klez worm.  One of them seemed to originate from Korea, and the other from AOL, but they both had the same x-mailer in the header: "The Bat! (v1.52f) Business".  Strange!!  If I get any more I’ll run ‘em through Spamcop.  Haul those headers in for questioning, as they say.

Pine Valley Cosmonauts

I had SO much fun tonight, I mean last night.  YAY!!!!  Isn’t that always the case, every time I do a show with that Langford guy.  It’s always a circus, always a game of musical chairs, and a big chaotic crowd-pleasing finish.  Everybody had a good time, and I dragged John along and he had fun too.  Gary did sound, and my old pal Chris Mills was there, and Sally Timms, and David Yow and Suzy, and John Rice was playing guitar.  Janet Bean did a song and so did Diane Izzo and oh, there were tons of people walking around that I had met fifty thousand times and still don’t know their name.  Kelly Hogan even came to do a song or two before she had to bolt over to the Bottle to play with Danielle.  So much fun!!!!  It’s neat-o, I feel like I’m really lucky to have wormed my way into that gang somehow.  I don’t know what it is about Jon Langford, he’s a fun-magnet.  One of those people that other people sort of rotate around, and no one knows why, it’s just the way it is.  (I’ve known other people like that in my life, but they were all pot dealers… heheh!!)

Each song features a different singer.  I did all the vocals on the song "My Window Faces The South". Other singers include Alejandro Escovedo, Neko Case, Kelly Hogan, Robbie Fulks, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and the Meat Purveyors.

Gotta talk about my friends

Okay, I know I’ve been suckin’ with the diary thing. I avoid updating it for some reason, just like I do with my e-mail. Days go by and I don’t even touch it. ::I’m sorry!!:: Just keeping to myself I guess. In the online sense.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with that van. I took it out to Berwyn on Saturday night to participate in a Bob Wills tribute by Jon Langford & the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, at Fitzgerald’s. I gave Jane Baxter-Miller a ride and took Iris on the highway for the first time. The Eisenhower and, on the way back, the Kennedy even! I’m so freaky paranoid about this thing, even though I’m insured out the wazoo. (My car has insurance but my body doesn’t!?!)
