Sssshhhh…

Hello, how are y’all?  Feels like I just posted that show-cancellation notice yesterday, I guess I just slept through that whole time since then.  And whoo-hoo, I’m almost caught up with my backlogged All My Children’s!  Yep.  Productivity.  But yeah, I’ve been a good girl, I’ve stayed very very quiet since the weekend and only left the house a few times (very quietly).  I don’t want to test it out too much but the voice seems a bit better, squeakin’ out about four or five more notes that I had this weekend, so that’s good.  I’ve never gotten too scientific about it but I’m pretty sure my normal range is about 2 good octaves… I’m up to about 1-1/2 octaves now I think (squeaking at least), which isn’t bad considering I sounded like frickin’ Harvey Fierstein one week ago.

Silver Jews shows are off

This sucks, but I’m not going to be able to open those two shows for the Silver Jews in Asheville and Carrboro.  I had a cold towards the end of the tour we just did, and I ended up losing my voice completely once we got home.  And although it’s started coming back a little, it’s not there in a way that I can use for singing.  :-( Over the past few days I’ve been testing it out, trying to get it together, but at the moment I sound more like a billygoat than a chanteuse.  So I’m really sorry but I had to bow out.  I’m going to stay home and shut the fuck up so I can get my voice back in shape for all the other touring I’ll be doing in the next few months.

ATP and Silver Jews

HOLY CRAP, looks like I’m confirmed to play All Tomorrow’s Parties in May.* And, here’s some formerly top-secret info I can finally reveal:  I’m opening a couple of shows (playing solo) on the historic, unprecedented tour by the Silver Jews.  Flying out there and flying back.  Just two shows: Asheville on March 12th and Carrboro on the 14th.  Mind you, if you’re in the Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill / Carrboro area, don’t cancel your plans to see me there on Feb. 24th ‘cuz that’ll be a headlining slot with a full band, whereas these Silver Jews shows are just solo… oh, you know, I’m just sayin’.  Nobody’s coming out to those shows on MY account anyway, it’s all about the Joos.  :-)

* Oops… it’s actually called "The United Sounds of ATP UK 2006." That’s a mouthful!  I’ll just be referring to it as ATP if y’all don’t mind.  :-)

My song "Calling Over Time" (the same version that later appeared on my first album of the same name) was included on this Japanese compilation CD, along with tracks by Palace Brothers, Royal Trux, The Red Krayola, Gastr del Sol, Smog, Flying Saucer Attack, Plush, Silver Jews, and Cynthia Dall.

Released sometime around the spring of 1996; I’m not sure of the exact date.  I can’t read Japanese, but it’s almost certainly out of print, and isn’t available on Drag City’s site either.
