The Innocence Mission, and neglecting my shoes
Sunday May 22, 2005 – 9:25 amI just listened to an album by the Innocence Mission, a band from Pennsylvania that Eric turned me on to. Their music is sooo beautiful, I can’t believe I haven’t heard ‘em before! Maybe I just wasn’t ready for it until now, heh. Y’all should really download the song Tomorrow on the Runway and listen to it, it’ll make your day a little nicer no matter what happens.
We’re going to start recording the new album tomorrow evening. MY new album that is! Yesterday Rian came over and we ran over the songs again. It’s going to take a little longer than other albums I’ve done, we’re mixing at the end of June if all goes according to plan. We don’t have a solid week blocked out or anything, just evenings and weekends here and there depending on when the participants will be available.
I’m doing laundry right now, and about an hour ago I mended a dress and washed it in the sink with Woolite. It’s hanging over the tub to dry. I can’t remember the last time I picked up a sewing needle, what a concept! I reckon it’s good to do at least one thing every day that you haven’t done in years. Yesterday that thing was: I wore a pair of shoes that I hadn’t worn in ages. They’re nice shoes, nothing wrong with ‘em at all, I’ve just been stuck on wearing my Blundstones all the time.
Later on I’m meeting up with Eric for a late lunch / early dinner, and then in the evening we’re going skating with Sarah and maybe some other folks too. Fun fun fun!!

a long time ago you responded to something written about you (”i’ve never met Mark Kozelek" [we're paraphrasing here]). anyway, my only Innocence Mission knowledge comes by way of the John Denver tribute album organized by Kozelek, much of which is kinda tired sounding (presumably because Kozelek was the one participant rilly rilly gung.ho for Denver). i guess his greatest feat as a cover-artist was taking "silly love songs" and making it sound like "cortez the killer." i mean, he should be paying Neil Young royalties instead of pMcCartney !

Yes, aren’t Karen and Don Peris (the couple behind The Innocence Mission) wonderful! She’s got such an unforgettable voice. All of their music has a melancholy glow to it, that sounds timeless and dreamy. I see why you’d dig ‘em. I’ve been putting songs onto my iTunes and their "Tomorrow on the Runway" is at the top of my batch of 70 of their songs. I first heard of them on an eclectic very early a.m. radio show six years ago. ‘Til now, I didn’t know anyone else who’d ever heard of them. I’m glad Eric knows of them and now you do.
