Upgraded EE
Saturday August 21, 2004 – 5:57 amFinally chained myself to the machine long enough to do the upgrade to ExpressionEngine 1.1. I applied to beta-test the thing weeks ago but never got around to actually installing those betas — oh well, I thought I’d have more time but I didn’t, and it’s okay, they got more than enough feedback from the folks who weren’t lazy-ass lying good-for-nothin’ file-hogs.
So yeah, it’s done and Matthew HAY-yulped. He would say "I didn’t do anything!!" but that’s not true; we had a chat running the whole time which kept me awake and concentrating. It was good. I was comparing, comparing, uploading and saying stuff like "huh, it looks like the commenting feature got changed" and he’d go over and look and and say "yup, it did!" ha ha.
This is the same kind of non-work that Rob helped me with the last time I had to wipe the drive & reinstall OSX on my old iBook, may it RIP. That took a lot longer of course, but even this was kind of a paddlin’… and once you start, you can’t stop or you’re screwed. I know I did it the hard way but whatever. I was comparing filedates by eyeballing ‘em and juggling three folders — the one on the server, the old one on my computer and the new one. SO many files got changed… there’s over 70 new features! Here’s the changelog. When I first saw that list, I had to go lay down, it was just too much for my poor brain to digest. Whole lotta software for one lil’ blogger like me… there’s no way I’ll ever make use of all that power but I like how it keeps me on my toes. I’d rather strain my brain a little than have to sit there kvetching all the time about how the software is limiting what I can do on my site. Oh sure, there are little details that could still use improvement, but it’s only human. ha ha.
So yeah, today, between other tasks I’ll be playing with the new features and fixing certain things back to how they were, like in the member profile templates. I did save a copy of the old templates so I just gotta go back in there and figure out what the fuck I did last time.
I need to jam on guitar a lot today as well, buy strings and walk my ass off again. I drank too many smoothies the past few days. It was a project, I bought the stuff at the store and learned how to do it. And now I can do it, but the bathroom scale is saying "YOU MUST PAY!!" It’s fuckin’ fruit, how can it be fattening? No fair. No fair at all.
