Who’s Mark, have I met him? Anyway yeah… it’s definitely legit, they got permission. And somebody at Drag City probably did let me know. The problem is that they’re asking me all the fucking time to use songs — DC is, I mean. If they get a request to use a song, the Dans and Rian will look it over, and if it seems to be a fair deal they’ll forward it to me for the final OK. So if they send it over, I routinely just say okay because I already know it’s fine with them. And most of the time nothing ever comes of it, most of the time they’ll ask to use a song and then not use it in the final thing (tv show, movie, whatever). So I go into it pretty much assuming it won’t be used. And if they do use it, sometimes they change the name of the thing before it’s released. Or get a new lead actor or whatever, so it no longer sounds familiar to me at all. But it’s still legit, and hopefully for a commercial movie like this, in an ideal world I would get some kind of usage fee after release? But I don’t know what the deal is that D.C. set up with them. Rian’s off in Europe, I’ll find out when he gets back. I also don’t know what song they used! But it’s pretty exciting anyway, if it actually winds up in the movie and stays there. I’m not quite there yet, as far as the believing-it’s-true part. ;-)

Not quite but pretty close. I had gotten word that it was probably in the movie but I didn’t know if it had made it to the final cut. I think it was like a week or two before release when D.V. or somebody at Drag City told me it was in for sure.

OK, so, the guy got confused. I don’t have a song in Brothers Bloom, I have a song in the film Gigantic, which he also saw at the same film festival or whatever it was. And that makes a whooole lot more sense, ha ha.

Gigantic also seems to also be a Hollywoody type of movie with lots of names I recognize… John Goodman, Jane Alexander, Ed fucking Asner wow!!!! So it’s really good news that the song is there and didn’t get cut. They’re using the song “A Mirage” from the last album.
