Would I lie to you?
Thursday June 17, 2004 – 2:57 pmI’ve been asking some real-world pals if they want invites to Gmail, and the universal reply I’m getting is… "What? I need less e-mail, not more!" I’m weary of attempting to explain why this a good thing and why they’d want it, that it might actually help them with their overflow. The more I try to explain, the more I come off like a geekier-than-thou evangelist. It’s no skin off my nose, I just wanted to make sure I included them so they wouldn’t get mad at me later for not offering. And I know there are lots of people out there who do want invites. So! First three people who want one, speak now and you shall have it. No beefcake shots required. (grin)
I’m saving one invite in case one of the aforementioned friends changes their mind, but I’m not holdin’ my breath or nothin’. ;-)

Well I’m not an actual member here, but I’ve made it a daily habit to visit and read your writings since I heard your recordings for the first time a year back.
I bet since you’re a proper webmaster you could even verify this via my IP :)
Anyhow I’d be so appreciative of a gmail account, perhaps I could offer my time tweaking your stylesheet in exchange.
You know, you were the person who pushed me over the slope in regards to trying out YDL on my 12″!
Go edith!

Arrright, that’s what I like to hear! Who’s next? :-)

oooh, me, me! fellow texan and appreciator of pralines… the tex-mex recipes i could archive with a gig’s worth of email space! i’d be ever so grateful. ; )

Okay, one more! Oh screw it, make that two. Who am I kidding, I have no friends who give a crap. Even if I was the person who sat down with them (at least 2 of ‘em) to show them how to get their own Yahoo address years ago… now that I tell ‘em there’s something better they’re all “I don’t think so.” I mean, if people would just respect mah authori-teh when it comes to internet stuff, it would make things a lot easier for all of us!! They’ll want it later and they’ll get a crappy address with numbers in it, and THEN they’ll be sorry! tee hee

I actually am sitting on 4 invites right now that I’d be happy to give away… I guess I’ve been using Gmail enough that they keep replenishing mine, and I think I’m pretty much out of people to give them to.
So, come here (http://feralboy.com/log/archives/001127/) and post and comment.

Hey y’all, try the Gmail Machine if you have extra invites or are looking to get an invite. And Kenneth, I hope you’re planning on USING the invite I sent you! If you don’t want it, please let me know and I’ll give it to someone else.
June 18th, 2004 at 7:23 pm
I have five more invites y’all…
June 18th, 2004 at 10:41 pm
Could I have one, Edith?
I have all of your records. Insincerely, I reckon some sort of compensation is in order !
(Moreover, you’d have my promise to put in proper registration.)
June 18th, 2004 at 10:49 pm
OK, I have four now…
June 18th, 2004 at 10:50 pm
p.s. you mean compensation by me to you, in return for you having to suffer through my music, right? ;-)
June 18th, 2004 at 11:15 pm
Clearly!
June 19th, 2004 at 3:24 am
Ah sure would love one of them there Gmail invites. Oh and someday I will join this site, really. Lay-Z!
June 19th, 2004 at 3:46 am
look ma, i registed. even if i still can’t sign in…yet!
June 19th, 2004 at 8:17 am
Okay, three left. Man, I feel like some kinda drug dealer here! BTW y’all, please don’t feel like you have to register, unless you just want to anyway. I’m giving them away first come first served. And oh yeah, fyi it wants a first and last name when I send out the invite — I’ve just been making up names if I don’t know for sure. You can change that after you sign up.
June 20th, 2004 at 6:56 pm
So, Eda. If I should want one of these, I’ll take one. We never use our home email address because it’s a spam hole. Would the gmail fix that, if I swore not to sign up for any sweepstakes or put my address anywhere on the web without some sorta secret code?
June 20th, 2004 at 7:02 pm
OK, I’ll call you when I’m done with this sandwich Lucie, or you call me tonight. I also want to try talking you into getting a cheap router/firewall.
June 20th, 2004 at 7:03 pm
P.s. I also plan to tease you mercilessly for not logging in before you post. :-P
June 20th, 2004 at 7:06 pm
P.P.S. I love how you phrased that… “if I should want one, I’ll take one.” People, this is my sister. She’s been this way her whole life! ;-)
June 20th, 2004 at 8:29 pm
please say you’re at least considering “luciefr@gmail” …
June 20th, 2004 at 9:10 pm
Ha ha ha!! We did used to call her Lucifer sometimes when we were kids — but alas, she doesn’t use her maiden name anymore and hasn’t for many years. She ended up using her full (married) name smooshed together, since “lucie” was too short. And much to my surprise she already has a Linksys router to hide behind!! Man, and she says she runs AdAware obsessively. The gal is doing way better than I ever would’ve given her credit for.
June 25th, 2004 at 5:17 am
Hello! Do you still have any of those invites left? If you do, I’d love to get one, though I realize I’m a bit late. I’ve been looking for a way to get my own gmail adress ever since you first wrote about taking the plunge yourself.
June 25th, 2004 at 7:00 am
I do for you! :-) I have one left now, I’m going to hang on to it in case a friend wants it. If they give me any more I’ll give ‘em away here.
